During the online auction that ended online on 15th November 2017 on iDealwine, a bottle of Romanée-Conti 2000 was auctioned €17,146 to a French amateur. This iconic bottle from La Romanée-Conti is setting the new record for the most expensive wine sold on iDealwine since its foundation! The new most expensive wine in the history of iDealwine auctions since its creation in 2000 is, without much surprise, Grand Cru Domaine de la Romanée-Conti 2000. For once, a French amateur purchased this wonderful bottle that is undeniably at the top of fine wines, with…

Top 20 of Burgundy wines

Our Tour de France of the most expensive wines is coming to an end. But we still haven’t spoken of Burgundy and its grands crus, although at auction, it represents 31% in volume and 46% in value. Our series of rankings ends on a grand final with one of the most fantasised regions during this first half-year: Burgundy, of course, the kingdom of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. As a reminder, in order to establish this first half-year ranking, we decided to keep only the most expensive wine of each property, auctioned on iDealwine.…

Jayer, Mouton, Côte-Rôtie and Sancerre at the top | Auction report

The auction closed on 24th May offered once again a variety of appellations, domains and vintages that only iDealwine can propose with such regularity (at least twice a month). Amateurs have flushed out treasures from all over the vineyard and whatever the region, due notably to the large diversity of buyers originating from more than 50 countries around the world. This sale demonstrates the renewed interest for lesser vintages of Mouton Rothschild, probably supported by a few wine collectors who are completing their vertical collections. Indeed, verticals of this first classified growth from…

Domaine Leroy shines in Asia | Auction report

The sale on 10 May offered a collection of truly exceptional grands crus from Domaine Leroy and its white wine counterpart, Domaine Auvenay. It came as no surprise that prices for the wines, which were mostly acquired by Asian buyers, scaled new heights. Domaine Leroy has long been renowned for the larger-than-life personality of its owner Lalou Bize-Leroy, a passionate exponent of biodynamic winemaking. Her scarce wines are already commanding premium ex-domaine prices and are virtually unobtainable on the secondary market, hence the exceptional nature of this sale with a group of approximately…

Stars of the 2015 auctions on iDealwine

Here is the rundown of the top bottles auctioned on iDealwine over the course of last year.  This overview provides a snapshot of the year, illustrating on the one hand particular circumstances and on the other some underlying, structural trends. DRC from Burgundy and, to a lesser extent, Bordeaux, dominate the roll call of the 50 bottles that fetched the highest prices at auction in 2015. Although Bordeaux accounted for over 50% of the total value of our sales in 2015, the region does not dominate the list of the 50 priciest bottles, with…
