Every weekday (not including the weekend) since 15 July, a bottle has been up for grabs in our Olympics-themed competition on Instagram. For each heat, an iDealwine employee represents a discipline that can be found at the Olympic Games and presents a bottle of wine or spirits from one of the participating countries. And it could be you who wins the bottle!
The rules are as follows
- Subscribe to the accounts mentioned in the post in question
- Like the post
- Tag two friends with whom you’d like to share the bottle if you win
- To enhance your chances, share the post to your stories and tag us

Day 1: Barbera d’Alba 2019 Giulia Negri – Italy – Laura – Fencing
Giulia Negri, the ‘Barolo girl’, is part of the new generation of this beautiful Italian appellation and crafts a beautiful Barbera d’Alba produced only in certain vintages and in minute quantities. The wine is also classed as one of our Must Haves. This little-known estate run by a winemaker who learnt the ropes in Burgundy, is one to follow very closely! Our Italian Laura has taken up fencing, a sport in which the Italian delegation has been mightily successful in over recent years, picking up medal after medal. We’re looking forward to seeing what the 2024 Olympics will bring!
Day 2: Saké Junmai Ginjo Sparkling Origarami Masumi – Japan – Henrique – Skateboarding
Today’s bottle for our Olympic giveaway takes us to Japan. This sparkling saké is enjoyed for its elegant texture and apple and lemon aromas. It’s made from high quality rice and pure, spring water using a carefully controlled fermentation process. Ideal for joyous occasions, like winning a medal at the Olympics, it should be served at room temperature. Henrique has taken up skateboarding, inspired by the discipline being added to the lineup this year. Japan, among others such as the USA, are in their realm here.
Day 3: Xiaoling Cizhong 2015 – Chine – Victor – Table tennis
This high-quality wine is made from grapes grown at over 2,000 metres of altitude on the slopes of the Upper Mekong. The estate is heavily influenced by Burgundy and its oenologists and if you ever doubted whether China could produce fine wine, well, the proof is in this bottle. Victor is a keen ping pong player and it’s no secret that China has dominated this sport for decades. Will another country be able to beat Chinas nimble team this year?
Day 4: Vina Alberdi Reserva 2018 Rioja Alta – Spain – Laure – Football
What do Roja and Rioja have in common? They’re both Spanish! If you didn’t already know, Roja, the Spanish football team, have just won the 2024 Euros (congrats!). Laure bets that this great footballing nation, buoyed by its most recent win, will shine at the Olympics. Rioja is a celebrated Spanish wine region where one of the finest wine cellars can be found, Rioja Alta. It was created in 1890 in Haro by five Basque winemakers.
Day 5: Stags Leap District Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay 2021 Shafer – USA – Angélique – Cycling
The USA is a strong sporting nation so what discipline could we choose to represent it? Given that they are very good cyclists, Angélique has jumped on her bike with a bottle of one of the most iconic Napa Valley producers, known throughout the world, in hand. This rich, generous wine is balanced by its fine acidity that some compare to a mature Chablis.
Day 6: Dry Red Wine No. 2 2015 Yarra Yering – Australia – Paul – Swimming
Australia have won 557 medals at the Olympic games over the years which is simply incredible! Another thing this vast country is proud of is its wines. And it should be! At the 1889 Universal Exhibition in Paris, Yering Station’s wine was one of 14 from estates located outside of France to receive an award. This beautiful blend of Shiraz, Mataro and a smidge of Viognier creates an intense, aromatic wine.
Day 7: Stellenbosch Estate Reserve 2012 Glenelly (magnum) – South Africa – Jordan – Tennis
South Africa, the fourth best country at tennis in the Olympics, has already picked up three gold medals in this discipline. And Jordan hopes to emulate them in his next tennis match. And a magnum of a Bordeaux-style blend with a depth that just keeps on going will be ready for the post-match celebrations. This go-to South African estate actually used to be owned by Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande.
And who will win the next heats? It could be you!
