Nestled in the heart of the Côte-Rôtie, in Ampuis, is Domaine Jasmin. The elegant and supple wines of this family estate can be enjoyed in their youth of after a good twenty years in the cellar when they develop wonderful aromatic complexity.
Patrick Jasmin represents the 4th generation of winemakers in his family and has managed the domain since 1978. With the help of his wife Arlette, Patrick runs the operation with a masterful hand. The six hectares of Syrah (95%) and Viognier (5%) vines have their roots in various parcels scattered around Ampuis, home to the finest Côte-Rôtie. Sustainable agriculture and low yields ensure healthy grapes and the steep vineyards are entirely worked by hand without the use of mechanical labour.
Vinifications are gentle and take place on a parcel by parcel basis. Patrick places emphasis on aromatic finesse rather than power. The wines are then fermented at 28°C before being matured in oak. During bottling, Patrick chooses to neither clarify or filter his wines. The result: elegant, supple yet concentrated wines with a fresh and distinct aromatic palette that expresses the characteristics of this marvellous terroir. A 24-month maturation period produces wines that are pleasant when young but nonetheless possess immense cellaring potential. This is a Côte-Rôtie with a difference and to be discovered immediately.

This Syrah develops aromas of small red fruit, blackberry, violet and spices. The palate offers beautiful balance, aromatic depth and elegant tannins and the mouth is fine and delicate with a long, savoury finish. This wine is a wonderful pairing to red meats and game.
Bettane & Desseauve on Domaine Jasmin:
This small domain has 11 parcels in 8 lieux-dits in the Côte-Rôtie from which Patrick Jasmin makes an authentic single blend. It’s best to give this wine a few years in the cellar due to the reductive environment present during the bottling process to better preserve them. A superb 2015.
The wines: After a less successful period, this domain is back on centre stage with some much more convincing cuvées, especially since 2009. The Saint-Péray is a model of its kind.
