Rare Veuve Clicquot cuvées on Auction

The current Online Auction closing on Wednesday 16th September displays a rare collection of 50 cuvée from Veuve Clicquot going back to 1975 vintage. All the bottles come from the cellar of a very fine wine collector from Champagne, particularly careful with the conditions of conservation of his wines. Although Veuve’s Clicquot generic Yellow Label will never be an auction’s blockbuster, the famous champagne house also produces a few truly exceptional cuvées from its premier and grand crus vineyards. Always dominated by Pinot Noir, the best vintages offer extremely complex and refined wines.…

iDealwine’s Foire aux Vins: discounts, choice & mature wines

French wine lovers often associate the month of September with the traditional Foires aux Vins. The concept started centuries ago when wine merchants used to clear their stock to free some space for the arrival of the latest vintage. The concept became extremely popular over the years and always a great opportunity for customers. While keeping with its identity of selling a great diversity, haute couture and mature wines, iDealwine proposes a special selection with discounts ranging from 10 to 40%. September is the perfect moment for fine wine lovers to fill in…

WineDex up nearly 8% for first half of 2015

Driven by the success of Burgundy wines, the iDealwine indices have recorded a growth rate of nearly 8% for the first half of 2015. During the last six months, buyers were particularly interested in top French wines, with the iDealwine iDealwine 100 indice appreciating by 7.92%. Several factors contributed to this good performance, but it can primarily be ascribed to the popularity of top Burgundy wines. These are traditionally more difficult to find than Bordeaux and available in minute quantities, with the top domaines of Côte de Nuits even more in demand due…

iDealwine’s subsidiary IWA ranked #1 in France

Recently released 2014 figures by the French Council of Auctioneers places International Wine Auction (IWA) – the subsidiary of iDealwine that handles the administration of our online auctions – as the number one for wine auctions in France. We have to confess (blushing slightly) that we are very proud to be officially recognised as the No. 1 French wine auction operator. We are especially proud of our team’s hard work over the last 15 years and the recognition by our ever increasing customer base. Over the last few days, the French Council of…

Vinexpo: Château Margaux unveils new cellar

To coincide with this year’s Vinexpo and in celebration of its 200th vintage, Château Margaux launched its new facilities, designed by Lord Norman Foster. iDealwine’s deputy managing director, Angélique de Lencquesaing, was among the media and wine trade guests. Château Margaux recently unveiled its new cellar and underground library vault, with the type of reception to which only the greatest Bordeaux producers hold the secret. This project took more than three years under the supervision of the great architect, Norman Foster. Arriving at Château Margaux, one of the first things that strike you…

Asia’s thirst for wine

The days of wine being little more than a status symbol gift with which to impress colleagues and friends, may soon be over – there is a fresh new wind blowing through Asia, with a growing number of young and knowledgeable consumers enjoying a wider range of wines, more frequently. The Chinese may be known for their “Red Obsession” – overtaking France and Italy last year to become the number one consumer of red wine – but according to an article in Gambero Rosso, there is definitely room for something new. The article quoted…

Considering the UK market

The UK wine market finally seems to be stabilising, with especially the on-trade showing signs of a revival, while the price per litre for wine has been increasing in both the on-trade and off-trade. With our head office in Paris, iDealwine has been growing its international reach by opening an office in Hong Kong in 2013 and London in 2014, focussing more time and resources on serving our clients in the UK, Western Europe, Asia and the US. Based in our London office and following the recent London Wine Fair, I decided to…

View from the top at London Wine Fair

What an exciting few days it has been! Last week, iDealwine exhibited at the London Wine Fair for the first time, as part of the newly launched premium wine section, The View. In-between seeing old friends, making new ones and tasting some amazing wines, we also put our visitors’ taste-buds to the test with our blind tasting competition. While the jury is still out as to the exact visitor numbers, the 35th edition of this world-leading trade event can no-doubt be hailed a success. Held again at Olympia London, the fair was set…
