Beginning on 11th September and running for two weeks until 24th September 2020, this once-off sale from a private collector features a large number of sweet Sauternes, available in multiple vintages; world-renowned Châteaux, many from outstanding years; as well as a great variety of Magnums in both.
Highlights include many Bordeaux legends, indeed this sale could be considered a complete guide to iconic Bordeaux Châteaux, including (but not limited to) 1989 Lafite Rothschild; 1990 Vieux Château Certan; 1989 Château Lafleur; and Petrus with varying quantities available from 1988, 1995, 1996, and yes of course – 2005. There is enough Petrus in fact – nine vintages in total and in various quantities – that a vertical tasting springs to mind!
The holy grail of sweet wine – five bottles of 1989 (!) Château d’Yquem are available, six bottles of 1990 (!!) Château d’Yquem and three bottles of the excellent 1995 and 2001 vintages from the same iconic Bordeaux property will go under the hammer. With notes of honey, caramel and preserved fruit, this liquid gold is high on many a bucket list! There is also a wonderful choice of Lafaurie-Peyraguey to nicely complete the sweet wine listing, in the 1996 and 1997 vintages.
For those in search of the classics in larger formats, this auction will certainly appeal. Petrus appears once again in the catalogue with a 1998 Magnum. There are also Magnums from Château Pavie, Haut Brion, and Lafite Rothschild, also all from the 1998 vintage.
