Private Collection Auction| The rising stars of natural wine

Following our blog post last week about our current natural wine auction, let’s take a closer look at the rising stars producing this type of wine. These winemakers will be names to follow closely as their popularity surely grows.

Interest in this private auction no doubt stems from the fact it contains wine from many wine regions. Not only does it contain bottles from the biggest names right now, but it also includes wines from little known producers. And when we see the quality of this collection, made up of cuvées that we know well as well as those of our dreams, we certainly want to try these practically unknown wines that are at the same level.

One of the advantages of finding wines from these future stars is that their prices are very affordable.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of the big names of tomorrow that can be found in this auction.

From Jura

Alongside the big names from Jura such as Overnoy, Ganevat, Bruyère-Houillon, and Labet, you will equally find other names that we are looking forward to you discovering.

A historic Jura domain, it works according to organic principals and produces wines without defaults. Our collector says that they are “just as good as Overnoy”. It seems that this domain is well-known among those who are very knowledgeable about Jura wine, and it has a brilliant reputation for its Trousseaux in particular.

This new domain (2019) is the work of Katie Worobeck, who is originally from Ottawa and has worked at Domaine Jean-François Ganevat in the past. The small domain, where organic and natural wines are made, is already being fought over.

Like those above it, it has been said that this domain produces wines in the realms of domains such as Labet and Ganevat (the absolute best wines according to the collector). It should be noted that Mathieu Allante and Christian Boulanger worked for several years at Domaine Labet. Biodynamic principles are employed across the three hectares of Domaine Allante Boulanger and the natural wines are often aged in old barrels for a long time.

The young couple created their one-hectare-sized, Jura domain in 2011. They produce absolutely delicious organic and natural wines, and some are already difficult to find.

From Beaujolais

Here is one of the new Beaujolais winemakers who many are talking about. This 5-hectare domain was created in 2007 by a former nurse to the west of Mont Brouilly at an altitude of 500 metres. Work at the domain is as natural as possible, following organic and natural wine production principles.

A name that is beginning to be recognised in the Beaujolais natural wine sphere. The vines are grown in a completely natural way without any chemical substances (not even copper). The domain’s wines are known for their finesse and flavourful palates.

From Auvergne

Created in 2019, L’Egrapille in Lamontgie is the brainchild of Catherine Dumora, a doctor of anthropology in her previous life. Her domain comprises of beautiful old vines where horses are sometimes used in the vineyards to work the soil. Catherine creates brilliant natural wines in the Auvergne region that are worth exploring.

From the Loire

Remember this name; the domain is already making a mark as one of the greatest new talents from the Loire. Olivier Lejeune founded his domain in 2017 when taking over some vines situated on the Montbenault hill, close to Richard Leroy’s plants. His wines have been successful and are popular for their candid expression, brilliant maturity, and elegance. A domain to follow very closely.

From Languedoc

This is a superb Languedoc domain with vineyards in Drezery and Montaud, close to Montpellier, and created in 2005. Catherine Bernard who was formally a journalist, produces superb organic and natural wines. The small vineyard is surrounded by woods and hedges and each parcel is vinified separately. It creates gorgeously balanced, quaffable wines that possess a great delicateness.

From Champagne

Located on the Petite Montagne de Reims in Chamery, Domaine Thomas Perseval only covers 2.5 hectares and grows Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Petit Meslier, Arbanne, and Pinot Blanc vines. This organic family domain produces wonderful single-plot Champagnes that have been made in the most natural way possible.

From Burgundy

Located in Saint-Aubin, Domaine de Pierre Fenals only covers 2.5 hectares. The domain, which was created in 2009, produces superb biodynamic and natural wines.

This organic micro-domain produces natural wines in Chablis and was created in 2014. The wines are produced in very small quantities and are always sought-after by natural wine lovers.

Also, to note: this auction contains superb wines from outside of France like those from Fabio Geo and Rinaldi.

Happy bidding everyone!
