A new chapter is beginning at the Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges with the arrival of Laurence Danel, who will take the helm of the historic wine estate from 2 January 2026. She succeeds Jean-Marc Moron, who retires after 35 vintages and will continue supporting the transition until May 2026. iDealwine, through its subsidiary IWA, will once again have the honour of organising the estate’s 65th annual auction on 8th March 2026 at Château du Clos de Vougeot.
A career shaped in Burgundy
Originally from northern France, Danel first discovered Burgundy during a harvest at Domaine des Perdrix – an experience that set the course for her career. After earning her oenology degree in 2003, she honed her skills at Bouchard Père & Fils and later worked in viticultural consultancy before returning to estate work. Her time at Domaine Faiveley deepened her understanding of the terroirs and reinforced her affinity for Pinot Noir, a connection further strengthened during her recent tenure at Domaine Fery where she was at one with the Côte de Nuits vineyards.
Her career has been defined by patience, precision, and keen observation – qualities that are set to serve her well as she steps into this prestigious role.
In the footsteps of Jean-Marc Moron
Laurence Danel is quick to acknowledge her admiration of the tremendous work carried out by par Jean-Marc Moron, her predecessor. Like Moron, she champions meticulous maturation, respect for the identity of each plot, and a commitment to revealing wines of purity and authenticity. Her sensitive approach to red wine, and Pinot Noir in particular, suggests a smooth and thoughtful continuation of the estate’s stylistic evolution. Each cuvée, she believes, should express its climat with clarity and without additives.
A human and environmental commitment
Beyond the technical responsibilities of the cellar, the role of estate manager is deeply tied to the charitable mission of the Hospices Civils de Beaune. The wines produced by the estate help fund hospital projects and wider community initiatives – an aspect of the job Laurence Danel holds close to heart.
She also intends to strengthen sustainable viticultural practices, building on the estate’s existing environmental commitments with an even keener focus on soil health and biodiversity.
Looking ahead to the 65th Hospices de Nuits auction
Both Danel and Moron will be present at the upcoming 65th Hospices de Nuits-Saint-Georges charity auction, to be held on 8th March 2026 atChâteau du Clos de Vougeot. For the second consecutive year, iDealwine will organise this landmark event, through its subsidiary, IWA. Will you be there?
