Next Stop Provence: Summer Rosé par Excellence

Pale pink rosé and Provence are practically synonymous at this stage, you certainly can’t mention one without the other! If light and refreshing are the vibes you’re looking for this summer, look no further than Château d’Esclan and the rosé that has taken the world by storm, Whispering Angel. Perhaps the world’s favourite pink wine (certainly Instagram’s!), a bottle, magnum, or even double magnum of Sacha Lichine’s brainchild – described by James Suckling as “always delicious” and by Jancis Robinson as “more palate grabbing by far from the Provencal Pink norm”. Whispering Angel aside, Château Miraval is also a great option for a pale Provence rosé.

More than Rosé! Stellar Provence for your cellar

Off the beaten Provençal track – some of our favourites at iDealwine are rosés with a little more ‘oomph’ – pink but full of character. Don’t miss rosés Rimauresq, Tempier, La Bégude, Terrebrune, La Tour du Bon, Clos Cibonne or even Corail de Roquefort – in short, rosé for wine lovers.

Provence is home to many fine wines, producing reds and whites ideal for ageing. For example, try Henri Milan’s La Carrée, a parcel of Roussanne that stands out for its intense fruity aromas, its freshness, and its richness. Also from Henri Milan, we admit to a (serious) weakness for the Grand Blanc cuvée…

In red, don’t miss the iconic Domaine Trévallon, a true master of the region, with its astonishing blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. This is a great wine for ageing, with finesse, silkiness and freshness. From the Bandol appellation (renowned for its fine wine with ageing potential), opt for mature vintages from Château Pradeaux (2000) or more recent vintages to cellar from Château de Rimauresq, Tempier, Terrebrune, Clos Cibonne or Tour du Bon.

Corsican and Full of Character

Do you know all the native Corsican grape varieties? Do you know any native Corsican grape varieties? Don’t worry if not, but don’t let another moment pass without learning more and tasting the many exceptional wines from this often-forgotten corner of France. The wines of this beautiful, rugged island are sure to command your full attention!

There’s no two ways of saying this, Domaine Comte Abbatucci is simply a must-have! Its vintages and blend of many local grape varieties, are all remarkable, distinguished by their smoothness, finesse and freshness.

From the south of the island, the master of the Figari appellation is called Clos Canarelli and its biodynamic vintages aged in amphora are sublime.  On the other hand, in the north, the Patrimonio appellation offers a lot of great wines. We also can’t not mention the Arena family, spearhead of the appellation, where the parents, as well as the two children Antoine Marie and Jean-Baptiste, who all seem to have inherited the same talent. Some other favourites include Yves Leccia, Clos Marfisi and Nicolas Mariotti Bindi.

Last one for the road: try the wonderful Giudicelli, Sant Armettu and Clos Venturi.
