Great mature wines from Rhône and Bordeaux

A selection of beautifully-aged treasures from classic regions. Featuring a 1990 Hermitage from Chave, a 1991 Côte-Rôtie from Jamet, a 1995 Petrus, and a 2000 Mouton Rothschild.

The Rhône since 1970

The very fine selection of Rhône wines we offer ranges from the 1970s to the present day. Here, enjoy the most beautiful appellations that this region has to offer. In Châteauneuf-du-Pape, it’s Château Rayas that you just have to try one day, here in 2000, 2001 or 1996, but also the cuvée da-capo 2000 from Paul and Laurence Féraud (two magnums!), the 2010 from Clos des Papes or the 2015 from Château de Beaucastel. In Hermitage, bet on the 1990 from Chave, but also on the 1991 vintage of Paul Jaboulet Ainé’s La Chapelle. In Côte-Rôtie, it is of course the very famous Côte Brune from Domaine Jamet that you shouldn’t miss, in 2001 or 2018, as well as the same wine interpreted by René Rostaing in 2017.

Bordeaux since the end of the Second World War

Head for the banks of the Gironde and Garonne rivers, where the first vintage, a Clos Fourtet, takes us back to the year 1945. The must-haves? Petrus, in magnum or bottle, in a dozen different vintages including the famous 1990, 2001 and 2005, but also the châteaux Haut-Brion (notably 2005, 2009 and 2015), Margaux (1990, 1992, 2015), Mouton-Rothschild (from 1975 to 2015, 2000 and 2005 notably), Angélus (1986, 1994, 2003 and 2005) as well as Latour (in 1994 and 2009). If you want to bid on a lot of six or twelve bottles, you should consider Châteaux Lynch Bages, Canon or Montrose.

Other colours, too

For whites, aim for the great Burgundy wines such as the Corton-Charlemagne of Coche Dury, the Meursault Les Narvaux from d’Auvenay and one of its specialities, the Bourgogne Aligoté Sous Chatelet. You might also be tempted by the Bâtard-Montrachet of Domaine Ramonet.

Head for the Jura with its Savagnins and, in particular, the Arbois-Pupillin cuvée from Overnoy-Houillon as well as Jacques Puffeney’s vin jaune. As for the Champagne and its sparkling wines, it’s Jacques Selosse’s vintages that you absolutely must have at the ready, as well as the famous S cuvée from Salon. As for dessert wines, Clos Rougeard is a very attractive choice with its Coteaux-de-Saumur, and Dagueneau with its famous Jardins de Babylone.
