Wines on sale without a reserve price (at €1), including iconic wines
Some sellers – among the most spirited – set the starting price for bids on their wines at €1. This is an excellent way to arouse particular interest from bidders, especially when the wines in question belong to a category that all wine-lovers hunting for bargains regularly look up … and closely monitor.
At the moment, the most closely watched lot on auction without a reserve price consists of a bottle of 1996 Savennières from Clos de la Coulée de Serrant. 16 bidders have placed it on their watch list, which makes sense, as they secretly hope that the lot in question will not reach its estimated price. And right now, for example, this lot has a bid of €77, while the estimate for it is €130. No wonder such lots attract a large number of bidders (22 for the lot in question, with the auction closing in a five days).
Several iconic bottles, some beautiful labels and a number of grands crus are, unsurprisingly, among the most popular wines with a starting price of €1. Although some of these are from mediocre vintages, they may appeal to connoisseurs looking to buy an ‘anniversary’ year. These include a 2019 Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru Les Beaumonts from Emmanuel Rouget, 2008 Les Cistes from Domaine Peyre-Rose, two bottles of 2008Château Troplong Mondot, we could go on…
