Médecins sans Frontières auction at idealwine

A new auction has opened on the iDealwine website and among the catalogues, there are 840 lots being sold by the Médecins sans Frontières organisation to finance their work and to continue bringing healthcare to those in need.

The Médecins sans Frontières organisation

Médecins sans Frontières, which also goes by the name of Doctors without Borders in the English-speaking world, is an international humanitarian organisation that was created by doctors and journalists in Paris in 1971. For 53 years, the organisation has brought medical aid and care to people who are in desperate need of it due to war, epidemics, natural disasters or a breakdown in the care available.

The organisation in a few figures: It is currently working in 70 countries around the world, assisting in 90 different medical projects. 65,000 people work for the organisation around the world.

Médecins Sans Frontières provide care in risky environments without discrimination or choosing one side over the other when there is military conflict and always starts with the people who are most in danger. Medical care, material, and assistance as well as communication about the state of the medical situation in the affected place all form part of Médecins Sans Frontières’ mission.

It received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1999 for its work.

Its autonomy and its independence come from the fact that its work is solely financed by donations from private individuals.

Giants from Burgundy, Bordeaux, Champagne and the rest of the world

Burgundy is the most represented region in the catalogues with two stand-out cases from the majestic Domaine de la Romanée Conti (from the 1986 and 1987 vintages). Other bottles from this domain – from 1985 to 1987 – are also up for auction. Don’t overlook the wonderful bottles from Joseph Drouhin (Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Amoureuses, Montrachet Grand Cru Marquis de Laguiche), Georges Lignier, Etienne Sauzet, and Maison Bouchard, among others.

From Bordeaux, there are the local heroes of Petrus (from1974 to 1999), Château Latour, Château d’Yquem, Château Mouton, and Château Margaux. Aged red wines, sweet wines in their opening windows… You don’t to miss this selection at all!

It wouldn’t be an outstanding auction without some Champagne and the stars are certainly present: Grande Cuvée from Krug, Grand Siècle from Laurent Perrier, la Grande Dame from Veuve Clicquot all grace us with their presence. And turning to wines from the rest of the world, there are delicious German Rieslings (Frick Schmitt), Italian icons (Giacomo Conterno, Angelo Gaja), and American legends (Opus One).
