A passion for wine often starts from nothing, simply requiring a spark and a catalyst. Travel around France through its wine, passionately collected by an enthusiast over the years. The Single-Catalogue Collection contains wines produced between 2010 and 2022 and the auction ends of 27 February.
A story told through a wine collection
People who are passionate about wine travel when they open a bottle as well as when they meet winemakers.
Imagine being able to begin your wine journey in 1980s Burgundy with the greatest winemakers of the time: Henri Jayer, Michel Gouges, Jacques d’Angerville, Jean-Marc Roumier, Guy Roulot, Henri Jacqueson, along with many others.
It takes time, effort and passion to nurture an enthusiasm for wine. It’s not unusual to drive several hours, or even cross borders, to be able to meet someone special in the wine world. That’s what all enthusiasts do because they know that these meetings and discussions are priceless.
The crème de la crème of French wine
Along with Burgundy, our wine enthusiast has a soft spot for Alsace. “My wine journey started in 1980 in Alsace where I bought wines from Mrs Colette Faller, who I have fond memories of, several times andthe magnificent Riesling Clos Sainte Hune, a vineyard near the church in Hunawihr, from Trimbach.”
And Bordeaux was another front runner. “I still clearly remember visiting Château Canon in 1984 when I tasted the 1982 vintage. Also unforgettable is my visit to Domaine de Chevalier with the friendly Claude Ricard, who managed the estate for 35 years.” Memories that go far beyond the wine itself as they are also linked to people within the wine world and their passion.
Our collector also explored the length of the Loire Valley and stopped at the impeccable Domaine de la Taille aux Loups. “I have to mention my visit to Domaine de La Taille aux Loups in Montlouis-sur-Loire as I’ve never forgotten it, especially as we were welcomed by Jacky Blot with open arms. He let us taste his 2013 and 2014 Clos de Venise as well as his other wines.”
Part of an eclectic collection from 2010 to 2022
This auction catalogue is full to the brim with rare wines coming from all over France, but especially Burgundy and the Rhône, and from recent vintages, from 2010 to 2022 to be exact. From Burgundy, don’t miss the splendid collection of wines from Coche-Dury and Vincent Dauvissat.
From Bordeaux, you will find a wonderful range from Carmes Haut-Brion, Château Lafleur, Château Margaux and Mission Haut-Brion. Making a small detour to the Rhône, the Saint-Josephs from Gonon and the splendid Hermitages from Chapoutier are waiting to be savoured.
Origin and storage conditions
Where do the bottles come from? These wines were bought directly from the producer or well-established wine merchants (Duclot, Maison F. Dubecq, La Cave d’Ulysse, La Cave Bordeaux Rive Droite, Legrand Filles et Fils, etc.).
An when it comes to storage conditions, these bottles were place in several underground cellars built in the 2000s. However, following a move, our collector has decided to downsize his collection as he can hold onto the memories forever but unfortunately, no longer has all the room in the world for the bottles.
Happy bidding! (The auction closes on 27 February 2025)
