Every year, wine merchants across France pick their selections for the ‘Foire aux vins’, a nationwide wine sale that takes place just as summer comes to close. At iDealwine, we’ve been recognised for the quality up for grabs in our September special offers; we’re not just getting rid of ‘unsellable’ bottles. We’ve got 206 different wines on this year’s exceptional list, and here we’re outlining some of the highlights.
The little gems
The 2020 Côte-du-Rhône Sommelongue by André Brunel at the Domaine des Cailloux is a warming cuvée to open without any fuss. The signature bottle from a fine example of the appellation and one that’ll delight fans of the Rhône.
Cuisine de ma Mère by Chinon’s Nicolas Grosbois is available here in its 2020 vintage, too, a simple but highly enjoyable wine with gorgeous fruity aromas and mouth-watering flavour. A cuvée that’ll lift a mid-week, homemade meal.
Still in the Loire, we’ve got Domaine du Bel Air in the Bourgeuil area, in the form of its Jour de Soif cuvée; a fresh and flavourful Cabernet Franc that’ll bring a smile to your face from the very first sip. An excellent example of a wine made for pure enjoyment.
The hidden treasures
Featured in our special offers is the Bouzeron cuvée from Domaine de Villaine, owned by the co-owner of the famous Romanée-Conti. Bouzeron is a superb white with a taut and precise profile; a beautiful Burgundy.
As for Bordeaux, Clos Puy Arnaud has some of the region’s most cutting-edge wines, crafting vibrant cuvées with sophisticated depth. Not to be missed. Château Tronquoy-Lalande is an understated property in Saint-Estèphe that produces intense and balanced wines in a style classic to the region. These wines are winning over more and more professional tasters as vintages are released.
From Corsica, we find the very on-trend Domaine Antoine Arena with its Carco cuvée in the 2020 vintage; a sharp wine that carries all the charm of its terroir, a must-try reference.
Do you know about the fine wines of Faugères? If not, you should definitely try one of the sublime cuvées from Clos Fantine. These wines have a southern soul that blends complex aroma and concentrated flavours without losing their finesse. Trust us, this is an estate that’s worth your time!
The fine wines
Of the fine wines that feature in this selection, Château Guiraud is a good place to start. The estate’s most recent vintages have been increasingly precise, so we highly recommend the excellently balanced 2020.
Sticking with Bordeaux again, Saint-Emilion makes an appearance with Château Figeac, a grand cru classé B. This noble wine has magnificent length on the palate; one of Bordeaux’s best without a doubt.
Heading to the other side of the river, our selection features one of Pessac-Léognan’s landmark estates, Château Smith Haut-Lafitte, here in the 2016 vintage. A fresh wine with especially silky tannins; a model for good balance that will delight fans of the finest.
From Burgundy, we’d like you to discover the superb Domaine Heitz-Lochardet through its Pommard premier cru, the Rugiens parcel. This is a flavourful and accessible cuvée that breaks away from the rustic reputation sometimes carried by Pommard.
Finally, the Rhône features in our September special offer selection, too. Château de Beaucastel is a flagship property of the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation; their delicate and elegant cuvées are simply without compare. Here we have the 2007 vintage, a sumptuous year that’s ready to open and enjoy.
