1982 Ausone, 1989 and 2000 Petrus, 1945 Haut-Brion, Coche-Dury, Leroy, Krug, Japanese Hibiki whisky, Macallan single malt, 1898 Cognac Bisquit Dubouché…We’ve got some real classics in the spotlight.
From Bordeaux, the region of classicism par excellence, we’ve got grands crus classés in some truly fine vintages, bottles perfect for celebrating special occasions. As for the Premiers, you’ll find a 1986 Château Lafite-Rothschild, 1990 Latour, 1982 Ausone, 2000 and 1982 Margaux, Petrus from 2000 and 1989, a Pavie 2000 and a Mouton Rothschild from the same year. Hard to see how we could do better. There are also some bottles from Bordeaux’s finest vintages from other crus classés such as Talbot (1945), Gruaud Larose (1961), Léoville Las Cases (1982).
From Burgundy, we have a selection of big names. The legendary Leroy makes an appearance with a 2005 Clos de la Roche, and some beautiful whites from Domaine d’Auvenay (also owned by Lalou Bize-Leroy). In this same vein, Coche-Dury’s Meursaults are a must-have and available here in the 2002, 2009, 2010, 2015 and 2016 vintages. Some other classics to try at least once in your life if you haven’t already: Armand Rousseau, Georges Roumier, Méo-Camuzet, Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier, Dugat-Py, Prieuré-Roch, and Roulot. And for a pleasing price, you can get your hands on some mature cuvées from the Mâconnais – look out for the 2002 Mâcon Milly-Lamartine by Héritiers du Comte Lafon.
The Rhône, too, has its share of stars. Names like Rayas, Jean-Louise Chave, Henri Bonneau, Guigal and Thierry Allemand produce wine that enthusiasts across the world dream about. Especially when it comes to mature vintages like the 1990. In this sale, the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation is very well represented with a large selection from Beaucastel, la Vieilles Julienne, le Clos des Papes, le Clos Saint-Jean and la Janasse.
Finally, as we venture further into the world of spirits, this auction has a few real gems on offer. Whisky fans will be pleased to see the Japanese 30-Year Suntory whisky from Hibiki, an 18-Year Macallan single malt, and a 1991 Macallan Signatory. If you’re more into Cognacs, you’ll perhaps be interested in an 1898 Bisquit Dubouché or the Tesseron Extrême Rare Cognac. We’ve also got some almost 100-year-old Armagnac.
