Bordeaux vs Burgundy: the classic wine rivalry

In this auction, exceptional lots are legion from both Burgundy and Bordeaux.

Let’s start with Burgundy, from which you’ll find a bottle of 1965 Romanée-Conti from the eponymous domain, a 2004 Meursault Les Narvaux from Domaine d’Auvenay, 2017 Musignys from Comte Georges de Vogüé, various vintages of Corton-Charlemagne signed by Coche Dury, Georges Roumier’s famous plot of Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses, as well as his Bonne-Mares, and many other wines of the same ilk. Lovers of old wines will note the presence of some very mature lots such as Louis Jadot’s 1982 Musigny, 1972 Clos des Lambrays, Leroy’s 1955 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers and Domaine Leflaive’s 1981 Chevalier-Montrachet. On the pleasingly priced side, we advise you to look out for Bret Brothers, Huguenot, and Pierre Laforest.

From Bordeaux, Duclot’s mixed cases are always a hit, especially when it comes to the great 2010 vintage. Just like the 2000 Mouton Rothschild and 2009 Yquem, for that matter. Among the other fine and generous lots, you’ll find magnums of Château Clinet 2009 and 1995 as well as 2000 Troplong-Mondot. Among the very old wines, note the 1945 Château Pavie, a 1946 Château Margaux, and a 1949 Lynch Bages. Aficionados of sweet wines might like a 1937 Château Climens, a 1978 Yquem or a 1982 Fargues. On the more affordable side, look out for lots from châteaux such as Fieuzal, Ferrière, Fourcas-Dupré, or, for sweet wines, Clos Haut-Peyraguey and Doisy-Daëne.

In the other regions, the cream of the crop awaits you with wines such as Cuvée S 2007 from Salon, as well as bottles from Domaine des Miroirs and Richard Leroy

Special catalogue: the stars of Burgundy – Leroy, Domaine d’Auvenay, Roumier, Rousseau…

This special catalogue is a kind of paradise for any lover of great Burgundy wines. From the cellar of a great Burgundy enthusiast, this catalogue offers a small selection of very rare and perfectly preserved wines.

Perfectly preserved cuvées

At iDealwine, we think bottle conservation is of the utmost importance, and we’ve seen some beautiful cellars in our time… This time, the state of the wines in question is absolutely irreproachable: the bottles were bought for the most part directly from the estates or from one and the same Burgundy wine merchant, always just after leaving the domain. They were then immediately transported to a professional storage cellar in the Paris region, from which they have never moved, until today. This place is known for its exceptional conservation conditions (natural cellar at 12°C all year round, high humidity) and is used by many a great wine lover.

Our consignor insists: “These great Burgundy wines, and specifically those from Leroy, are particularly fragile, and it can be risky if one does not take the greatest care of them. This is why I have always been concerned to store these wines in the best possible conditions. Even the transport of the wines to their storage place, and then to iDealwine, was orchestrated in the best conditions, at the right time and without taking any risks.” The traceability of these wines is also perfectly documented, as this conscientious wine lover has kept all the purchase invoices and the dates of entry into the professional cellar are carefully recorded in the cellar book. You can therefore have complete confidence in their perfect preservation from start to finish.

A Burgundy enthusiast since his teens

The least we can say is that this seller developed a passion for wine at a very early age: he started buying wine when he was only 16 years old… Like many people, he started by buying Bordeaux wines, before moving on to Burgundy bottles quite quickly. He gave private lessons to pay for his first big wine purchases.

If this wine lover is now forced to part with some of his wines, don’t worry, he is only selling a tiny part of his cellar and he still has plenty of great wines to enjoy! In any case, he hopes that his wines will give the greatest pleasure to those who will have the chance to acquire them, because “the wines that I am selling all have in common that they are wines to be enjoyment, whether it’s now or in 30 years. All those who love the great wines of Burgundy will find their way in this selection”.
