We often mention iconic wines and producers in passing but we very rarely put them all in one place. Here we’ll take you through some of the most famous wines in the world from the likes of Petrus, Rayas, Clos Rougeard, Egon Müller, Angelo Gaja, Tenuta San Guido, Penfolds, and Klein Constantia…

Italian icons

  • Tenuta San Guido: You might recognise the name of this estate’s most famous wine, Sassicaia, a Super Tuscan that has an inimitable style.
  • Roagna: A top producer of the Barbaresco appellation in Piedmont.
  • Angelo Gaja: Wines to try if you want to experience a legend of the Langhe. The family’s spirit of innovation has been key in building the success and reputation of the region’s wines.

Spanish icons

  • Vega Sicilia: A name that resonates throughout the country and an estate whose Unico wine has found favour with many a top taster. It is to Ribera del Duero what Romanée-Conti is to Burgundy and what Petrus is to Bordeaux – a legendary wine that propels the rest of its appellation.
  • Pingus: Founded by Danish oenologue Peter Sisseck in 1995, this estate has gone from strength to strength and is now one of Spain’s most iconic wineries.

German icons

  • Egon Müller: This is an estate that works masterfully with the Riesling grape to craft magnificent wines in the Mosel Saar Ruwer region.
  • Markus Molitor: Another iconic winery in the Mosel, it is founded on a philosophy that puts nature, the terroir, complexity, and aging potential in the forefront of everything it does. 

South African icons

  • Klein Constantia: This is the producer of one of the best reputed dessert wines in the world, this is a must-have for wine lovers with a sweet tooth!
  • Kanonkop: This iconic winery is known for its Pinotage production, a grape that is emblematic of South-African vineyards. Fine Cabernet Sauvignon cuvées are also made here.

Australian icons

  • Penfolds: Hardly an introduction needed for this legendary producer, found in the heart of the Adelaide hills. The wines made here are sunny, powerful, and full-bodied!
  • Torbreck: This emblematic producer of the Barosa Valley only harvests its grapes when they are the most expressive.

French icons

  • Petrus: The most legendary Pomerol wine you can find.
  • Domaine Leroy: One that beats its own hammer price record every single year, and one of Burgundy’s most iconic wines.
  • Château Rayas: The premier production of Emmanuel Reynaud, whose wine style simply cannot be copied. One to try at least once in your life!
  • La Grange des Pères: A Languedoc name that has shot to fame in the past few years, with its quintessentially southern character.
