iDealwine continues its summer of events with a masterclass on Burgundy white wines against the most amazing backdrop of Berlin’s skyline and a trade fair in New York once again with a breathtaking view. Read on to find out more.

In Berlin, Burgundy reveals all the finesse of its white wines

After Vienna, the iDealwine team headed north to Germany and its capital to meet fine wine enthusiasts there. Jessica and Marion hosted an evening dedicated to fine Burgundy  white wines at the prestigious Berlin Capital Club, a place where enthusiasts, collectors and connoisseurs come together.

Chardonnay and the influence of different Burgundian terroirs was the focus of the evening. Through a selection of wines from the 2022 vintage, participants explored the way Burgundy white wines vary depending on where they come from with a Chablis grand cru, several the legendary Côte de Beaune and a highly sought-after Maconnais.

Tasted during the dinner were:

  • William Fèvre, 2022 Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir
  • Pierre Boisson, 2022 Meursault
  • Domaine de la Vougeraie, 2022 Puligny-Montrachet
  • Bruno Colin, 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet
  • Follin-Arbelet, 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

During the dinner, topics such as how fine white wines evolve over time, the influence of terroirs on the wine and the specific characteristics of each appellation were discussed. Presented in German, the masterclass allowed attendees to delve deeper into Burgundy appellations, while also discovering new estates and wines. It once again confirmed that French fine wines are beloved by European enthusiasts.

Growing interest for French gems in New York

This year’s Decanter Fine Wine Encounter in New York took place just days before the start of the World Cup in the country. Organised by the wine magazine Decanter, the wine fair brings together the greatest producers around the world and it’s an event that iDealwine never fails to miss.

The selection we presented drew people to our stand from far and wide. The Savagnin from Jura’s Domaine du Pélican left a mark on all those who tasted it, gaining lots of attention. The blind tasting bottle, which was a Savennières from Nicolas Joly, became the fair’s main attraction, bringing people to the stand to test their nose and wine knowledge. The magnums of Champagne Pierre Paillard Les Parcelles, Domaine Levet’s Côte Rôtie and the Nuits Saint Georges from Domaine Henri Rougeot also contributed to the general enthusiasm about our selection.

This turnout confirmed not only the growing interest in unique appellations and sought-after winemakers, but also iDealwine’s increased recognition among an American audience.

Four days later, the fourth Art du Vin masterclass organised with L’Alliance Française in New York took place, focusing on Sancerre and Loire Valley wines. Here as well, the energy and curiosity in the room illustrated the desire to learn about French appellations. The sparkling wine Triple Zéro from Jacky Blot blew participants away and became one of the talking points of the evening.
