May was a busy travel month for iDealwine! Our international team travelled to visit clients (and potential clients) in Vienna, Copenhagen and Malmö.
First stop, VieVinum in Vienna, Austria.
In Vienna, there are historic cafés, waltzes, and royal palaces… and, every two years, an event that Austrian wine lovers wouldn’t miss for the world: VieVinum. This May, iDealwine attended for the first time. We set up our stand in the spectacular surroundings of the Hofburg Palace, the former residence of the Habsburgs. For three days, we were immersed in the heart of the city and in Austrian wine culture, and in one of the world’s greatest wine cities.
Here, the vineyards grow on the capital’s doorstep. In the evening, after the fair, the terraces of the Heuriger – the traditional Viennese wine taverns – and chic natural wine bars fill up with sounds of clinking glasses, chatter and laughter spilling onto the pavements. Wine is an integral part of Austrian culture, and while its winemaking approach rewards technical precision, it equally values enjoyment. Sounds familiar? It’s certainly a philosophy we are on board with at iDealwine.
With growing numbers of Austrian clients at iDealwine, 2026 was the perfect time for our team to exhibit at the capital’s most important wine fair. Rest assured, our German-speaking team Marion and Jessica managed to squeeze in some terrace time too, all in the name of market research of course.
A trade fair that reflects Vienna: elegant, passionate and international

In the corridors of the Hofburg Palace, visitors wander, tasting notes in hand, eager to return to the same stand several times, asking specific questions about soils, ageing and winemaking methods. While many attendees were food and wine industry professionals, we met an equal number of wine enthusiasts, including several young (above the legal drinking age, of course) and very passionate wine lovers.
Bringing France’s finest terroirs to the heart of Vienna
At our stand, visitors could find:
- 2015 Château Lagrange, Saint-Julien, Bordeaux
- 2023 Jean-Philippe Fichet, Meursault (the visitor’s favourite)
- 2018 Jérome Coessens, Champagne
- 2021 Georges Vernay, Côte-Rôtie Blonde du Seigneur, Rhone
The only French wines showcased at VieVinum, the iDealwine stand was very popular among attendees, who particularly enjoyed our blind tasting competition. Viennese wine lovers surprised us with their thirst for French classics, and you can be sure we will be back.
Bordeaux 2005 in Copenhagen: iDealwine Meets Scandinavia’s Fine Wine Enthusiasts
As iDealwine’s client base continues to grow across Scandinavia, iDealwine’s Orlaith and Alix travelled to Copenhagen to host an exclusive masterclass dedicated to one of Bordeaux’s greatest modern vintages: 2005.
Held in partnership with The Vault, one of Copenhagen’s most exciting private wine clubs, the event brought together some of Denmark’s biggest collectors and Bordeaux lovers for an evening exploring the evolution, finesse, and ageing potential of mature classified growths.
A Hidden Gem in Copenhagen’s Wine Scene
The Vault was founded during the pandemic by sommelier and entrepreneur Corneliu Tiulenev and Gwenn Larsson and in just a few years has grown to become a reference point for fine wine enthusiasts in Copenhagen. Located behind a discreet speakeasy-style entrance in a former historic fine dining restaurant, the club blends classic mid-century Danish design with bespoke furnishings, all conceived to perfect and prioritise the wine experience. From naturally lit tasting spaces to leather-finished tabletops designed to mute the sound of glassware against wood, every detail reflected understated elegance.

2005 Bordeaux: A Vintage in Its Prime
The masterclass, titled “2005 Bordeaux: A Vintage in Its Prime”, focused on the beauty of mature Bordeaux entering its ideal drinking window. Guests enjoyed a horizontal tasting featuring wines from both the Left and Right Bank, concluding with a Sauternes from the same legendary vintage:
- 2005 Château Canon
- 2005 Château Gloria
- 2005 Château Lagrange
- 2005 Château Léoville Barton
- 2005 Château Pichon Baron
- 2005 Château Rayne Vigneau
The lineup illustrated the extraordinary balance and ageing potential of the vintage, with wines showing remarkable freshness, depth, and precision, twenty years on. Favourites on the night included Pichon Baron (for its complexity and long finish) and Château Gloria which was drinking exceptionally well.
A Sold-Out Evening of Fine Wine and Conversation
The event sold out completely, the atmosphere throughout the evening was relaxed yet highly engaged. Guests asked insightful questions not only about the wines themselves, but also about the international fine wine market, buying mature vintages at auction, provenance, shipping logistics, and authentication procedures.
For many attendees, this was also an opportunity to discover the breadth of mature vintages available through iDealwine’s auctions and fixed-price sales. The feedback on pricing and access to older vintages was particularly positive, confirming the growing appetite for mature wines in the Scandinavian market.
The tasting service, managed by three sommeliers from The Vault, was impeccable and contributed to the smooth and convivial rhythm of the evening.

Strengthening Relationships Across Scandinavia
Beyond the masterclass itself, the trip also provided an opportunity to meet clients from Denmark and Sweden to better understand local expectations and discuss how iDealwine can continue improving its services in the region.
These conversations confirmed the strong interest in mature fine wine among Scandinavian collectors, as well as the importance of trust, provenance, and professional logistics when buying fine wine internationally.
Looking Ahead
Following the success of this first collaboration, discussions are already underway for a second masterclass later this year, potentially focused on Burgundy and the great terroirs of Gevrey-Chambertin. For iDealwine, events like these are more than tastings: they are an opportunity to connect directly with passionate collectors around the world and to continue building a truly international community of wine lovers.
