Top wines up for auction in aid of the charity “Restos du Coeur”

12-de-coeur

French vintners and wine merchants united, for the second year running, in an act of solidarity.

Around a hundred magnificent lots are currently being offered for sale in aid of the charitable organisation “Restos du Coeur” in the iDealwine online auction running until 30 November. This is the result of an initiative by a group of major French producers who have joined forces under the auspices of the “12 de cœur” association.

With the season of giving approaching, now is a good time to hail the generosity of the large producers who met in June 2015 at the “12 de cœur” association to discuss a joint charitable initiative. And who were these producers? The cream of the vineyard, no less, with names including Aubert de Villaine (Romanée Conti), Jean-François Moueix (Petrus), Jean-Claude Rouzaud (Roederer), Jean-Pierre Perrin (Beaucastel), Michel Boss (Drouhin) and Pierre-Henry Gagey (Louis Jadot). At their initiative, French producers were invited to give twelve bottles from their production or to donate an equivalent amount to the association. The current sale, which runs to 30 November, includes a hundred or so lots donated by the estates. The proceeds will go to the “Restos du cœur”, the charitable association set up by the comedian and actor Coluche in 1986, which is just launching its winter campaign.

Burgundy features strongly among the wines offered for sale, including some top names such as Clos de Tart, from the Eugénie estate (Clos Vougeot 2011), Dujac (Clos de la Roche 2013), Louis Latour (Corton Grancey 2011) and Trapet (Gevrey Chambertin 2012) among the reds, and the Comtes Lafon estate (Meursault Charmes 2013), Jadot (Corton Charlemagne 2013) and Bouzereau (Meursaults Charmes du Dessus 2014) among the whites, alongside many others.

Also in the sale are some “grands crus classés” from Bordeaux, including Lynch Bages 2011, Langoa Barton 2009, Branaire Ducru 2011, Lafon Rochet 2006 and Prieuré Lichine 2012.

Alsace is represented with some names that have proved very popular at iDealwine: Weinbach, Zind-Humbrecht, Trimbach and Hugel, for example, along with wines from the Trévallon estate in the 2013 vintage and the white Hermitage Chante Alouette 2015.

On the champagne front, the Cristal 2007 from Roederer or the Amour de Deutz 2006, in its pink version, may prove irresistible. The houses of Mumm, Gosset and Giraud are also offering some tempting alternatives…

This online-only iDealwine auction runs to 18:00 on Wednesday 30 November. Let yourself be tempted! After all, this time it’s all in a good cause.
