Do you dream of serving the finest of wines to your loved ones at Christmas? iDealwine is granting you this wish thanks to our newest auction. Full of stars and smaller gems, mature vintages and extraordinary bottles, this is the chance to find exactly what you’re looking for. This auction will close on the 18th December so you’ll find the perfect wine for the festive season. Enough talking, let’s take a look at the must-try wines we have on offer.
Christmas comes but once a year, so don’t hold back in making the best wine choices. Make the most of this unique occasion by marrying your festive dishes with unforgettable bottles. Look to the prestigious regions of Bordeaux, Burgundy and the Rhône Valley which produce true gastronomic wines. We’re thinking of fine 1855 crus classés (Châteaux Gruaud-Larose and Ducru-Beaucaillou) or those from Saint-Emilion (Châteaux Ausone and Cheval Blanc). Burgundy has its own selection of grands crus, nicely represented at the heart of this sale. Romanée-Conti from the eponymous domain, Chambertin Clos de Bèze from Prieuré Roch, and Noëllat’s Grand Echezeaux for the reds, Coche-Dury’s Corton-Charlemagne and Jacques Prieur’s Chevalier-Montrachet are among our favourites! Don’t overlook fine wines from the Rhône – Châteaux Rayas and Fonsalette, Domaines Gonon and Gangloff as well as Anglore are all waiting for you at the auction.
Will you be hosting grandparents, parents, cousins and friends? Be generous and think big! Magnums (Général de la Révolution from the Corsican Domaine Comte Abbatucci or Mas de Daumas Gassac), double magnums (Bollinger’s Grande Année or Gauby’s La Muntada), imperials (1987 Château d’Yquem)… Which one takes your fancy?
It’s also possible to buy a lot of several bottles. For example, we have a 12-bottle case of the legendary Guigal LA-LA-LA trilogy (La Mouline, La Landonne and La Turque), 10 2001 Château-Sociando-Mallet and 6 of Clos de Fées’ Petite Sibérie. If you don’t need quite so many, have a look at lots of two (Domaine Weinbach’s Gewurztraminer Altenbourg Sélection de Grains Nobles), three (Savennières du Clos from La Coulée de Serrant) or four (La Féline from Domaine Borie de Maurel).
Given the number of guests you’ll be welcoming and the variety of dishes you’ll be serving up, it’s good to have a range of wines. No need to seek something new and original! Start your festivities with some fizz (Jacques Selosse’s Substance or Egly Ouriet’s Blanc de Noirs) , pair a salty starter with a nice white wine (Didier Dagueneau’s Buisson Renard or Clos Rougeard’s Saumur-Brézé), and choose a red to go with your stuffed turkey (Hiyu Farm’s Columbia Gorge The May or Brunello di Montalcino from Biondo Santi – a domain where the appellation appeared in the 19th century). Finish on a sweeter note with a Riesling dessert wine from the German Egon Muller or with Château Tirecul La Gravière’s Monbazillac. Those with a penchant for spirits will want to look at the auction’s wonderful array of cognacs and Armagnacs.
Are you looking for more gift ideas? You’ll find the perfect thing in our auction, particularly from the cellar that has just been introduced into it. Here are some suggestions! 2004 Meursault Chaumes des Perrières from Domaine d’Auvenay, 2003 Vosne-Romanée premier cru Cros Parentoux – a magnum, of course – and Emmanuel Rouget’s 2010 Echezeaux grand cru, all from Burgundy. For Champagne, there’s the old vines blanc de noirs from Egly-Ouriet, and Bordeaux grands crus classés go down a treat – 2006 Château Pontet-Canet, 2009 and 2010 Smith-Haut-Lafitte, 1989 and 2005 Haut-Brion, as well as the Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin de Beaucastel in the vintages 1998, 2005 and 2009. But the star of the show is undoubtedly Domaine George Roumier’s Musigny grand cru in its excellent 1990 vintage, complete with a rare label.
Happy auctioning!
