April 2026 Auction report: Domaine Dagueneau the great

Dagueneau Asteroid

Dagueneau, the legendary Pouilly-Fumé estate, was once again in the spotlight at iDealwine auctions in April 2026.

Domaine Dagueneau: the Pouilly-Fumé icon

Founded in 1982 by Didier Dagueneau, the eponymous estate has earned an international reputation, despite early scepticism from a market initially unsettled by his unconventional, pioneering approach. Meticulous vineyard work – including disbudding to control yields, manual harvesting and rigorous sorting – is matched by equally exacting winemaking methods. Fermentation relies on native yeasts selected from the estate’s plots. The wines then undergo extended lee ageing without racking, typically in large wooden vessels (320L or 600L), although the estate also experiments with alternative formats such as the wine globe. They then spend an additional period in tank before bottling. Following Didier Dagueneau’s accidental death in 2008, his son Louis-Benjamin took over the estate, carrying the legacy forward with confidence while asserting his own style. In 2016, he was named Winemaker of the Year by La Revue du Vin de France, recognising decades of dedication, first by his father and now by him.

The estate’s success and global recognition have significantly elevated the profile of the Pouilly-Fumé appellation, long overshadowed by neighbouring Sancerre.

Dagueneau Silex

The estate has also played a key role in renewing attention on the appellation before its wines were eventually released under the broader Vin de France designation following a disagreement.

Last month, iDealwine auctions saw particularly intense bidding for Domaine Dagueneau’s Sauvignon Blanc cuvées. Among the wines offered, our customers showed especially strong interest in:

  • Silex – A cuvée that highlights the purity of Pouilly’s flint-rich soils. A magnum of the 2015 vintage fetched €428, marking a 37% increase on its price estimate. Bottles from 2011, 2014, 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2022 sold for between €170 and €239, with lots going for 7% to 47% above their price estimates.
  • Pur Sang – A blend of parcels from the La Folie sector. The 1994, 2014 and 2020 vintages went under the hammer for €302, €168 and €214 respectively, representing 78%, 58%, and 89% increases on their price estimates, respectively.
  • Buisson Renard – A cuvée from a parcel in Saint-Andelain. The 1999 and 2015 vintages sold for €239 and €138, respectively.
  • En Chailloux – A tribute to the first parcel acquired by Didier Dagueneau. A bottle from the 1998 vintage soared to €176, marking a 57% increase on its price estimate.

From Champagne: Strong demand for Salon and grower Champagnes

There is little need to introduce Salon, the iconic house that consistently ranks among the top performers in iDealwine’s auction barometer. Its exceptionally rare cuvées were particularly well represented in last month’s iDealwine auctions. The 1966, 1999, 2004, 2007, and 2012 vintages all featured in the catalogues. The first, an outstanding vintage, soared to €6,290, with an Italian buyer securing the lot after fierce bidding drove the price to 107% above its starting price. The 1999 vintage also saw strong bidding, finishing at €1,271 (+31%), while the other vintages sold for around €1,000.

Among grower Champagnes, several cuvées from Selosse, Ulysse Collin, Jules Brochet, Cédric Bouchard, Marie-Noëlle Ledru and Aurélien Lurquin also generated strong bidding activity.
