What a wonderful way to end 2023! Last Friday, December 15th, saw the opening of a very unusual new auction featuring an extremely rare vertical of wines from Château Mouton-Rothschild, a Bordeaux Grand Cru Classé that became one of the top five in 1973.
Beautiful Vintages
The vertical is impressive and nearly complete. Hovering between 1945 and 2019, it contains some of the greatest vintages in the property’s history. In fact, it was with the Victory vintage that the idea of decorating the labels with the work of an artist was born.
Amongst the most emblematic, you will be able to find the following:
1945: V de la Victoire created by Philippe Jullian
1955: Braque’s drinking pleasure
1958: Salvador Dali and the transgression of all artistic boundaries
1970: Chagall’s watercolor touch
1971: Kandinsky and his resolutely abstract work
1973: Picasso’s bacchanal
1990: Francis Bacon, inspired by the drinking composed around the wine glass
1997: Niki de Saint Phalle and her allegory of gastronomic pleasures
THE SELLER, COLLECTOR OF… COLLECTIONS
In this auction, we are working with a true enthusiast. He is a collector of… all sorts of collection. The seller in this case has truly launched himself into the world of wine, particularly that of Bordeaux wines. Yquem, Chapelle d’Ausone and, of course, Mouton-Rothschild have all made it into this wonderful selection of wines. What does he look for? The quintessentially excellent cuvée and the experience of searching for it.
The bottles have been carefully stored in a single-story cellar which was custom designed by a renowned artisan. The conditions were ideal, with double climatization in order to ensure the perfect temperature.
One thing is certain – that this auction gives you the opportunity to be just like the seller, a collector of collections, whether it be art or wine! Note that the lots are offered individually, allowing you to complete your own cellar.
