Curious about the top-selling bottles so far this year? So are we! Let’s take a closer look at the best-selling wines that enthusiasts and collectors have been enjoying in 2020.

We can all agree that our entry into this new decade has been a tough one. Whilst we’re celebrating our twentieth year at iDealwine, we’ve also – like the rest of the world – had to adapt to the ongoing health crisis. At this point in the year, though, we can start to see trends emerging when it comes to which wines you’ve been loving. Before revealing them, we should note that these figures take all bottle formats into account.

Looking down the list, it won’t escape your notice that most of the wines featured are made to be aged. Bottles from Bordeaux, the Rhône, the Languedoc, and Burgundy whites have all inspired you for future tasting. This table demonstrates quite a disregard for the critiques aimed at Bordeaux in recent years, since this most traditional of regions takes up 72% of the names listed. This mainly concerns their famous grands crus classés, though several crus bourgeois and well-reputed châteaux make an appearance.

Next up is the Rhône valley, which represents 18% of bottles exchanged, including now redundant appellations and domains. What has been especially popular? Fine, ageing wines from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côte-Rôtie, and Cornas, as well as the unmissable Emmanuel Reynaud with his sensational produce at Rayas and Château des Tours, among others.

As always, Burgundy keeps a low profile in this top 100, being mentioned only four times. Proof, if we needed it, of the region’s rarity.

And we can’t avoid mentioning the Languedoc, here represented by the reds and white of La Grange des Pères. A little reminder: in December 2019, a rare 1992 vintage from this domain was auctioned for €5,219…a shake-up that saw many other owners of this fine wine sell their own!
