An exceptional collection of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti was auctioned on iDealwine in June. 124 bottles – including seven from the eponymous grand cru – fetched nearly half a million Euros (including VAT and fees). This collection was built by a passionate wine enthusiast who bought the wines directly from the estate and stored them in perfect conditions.
A rare 124-bottle collection of Domain de la Romanée-Conti wines
A great lover of wines from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti put part of his collection up for sale. 124 bottles from the famous estate went under the hammer on iDealwine in June:
- Romanée-Conti Grand Cru: seven bottles (2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2020, 2022)
- Corton Grand Cru: four bottles (2015, 2016, 2020, 2022)
- Montrachet Grand Cru: two bottles (2014, 2017)
- Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru: three bottles (2020 and two 2022)
- La Tâche Grand Cru: 22 bottles
- Echézeaux Grand Cru: 25 bottles
- Grand Echézeaux Grand Cru: 21 bottles
- Romanée Saint Vivant Grand Cru: 25 bottles
- Richebourg Grand Cru: 15 bottles
The wines all came directly from the estate and never left the collector’s cellar until they were sold. These bottles were kept in their original wood boxes and protective straw layer throughout their life, and they were in perfect condition.
The seller, a great lover of wines from this estate which he considers “totally unique in the world of great Burgundy wines”, could not drink all the bottles he had and thus decided to part with some of them to give them a second life with enthusiasts who will be able to enjoy them.

The 124 bottles went under the hammer for the combined total of €490,104 (commission and VAT included) for an average price of €3,952 bottle (vs. pre-sale average estimate of €2,750). Buyers where predominately from Hong Kong but an enthusiast from South Korea and another from Singapore also gave bottles a new home. Europe (excluding France) is the second most represented continent, with 42 lots (34% of the sale), sold mainly to those in Germany, Luxembourg, Latvia, Poland, Denmark, Spain and Austria, but also to a lesser extent, in Belgium, Italy, Switzerland and Estonia. Finally, American buyers took home nine lots, or 7% of the sale.
