A new charity auction has started on iDealwine with exceptional wines from Corsican legend, Domaine Vaccelli. iDealwine is happy to organise this sale from which the entirety of the money raised will be donated to the Arc-en-Ciel charity which supports severely unwell children.
Domaine Vaccelli – The Corsican icon
When we visited the estate last October, Gérard Courrèges welcomed us with open arms. We were there for four hours. What glorious memories!
Sitting in the south of Corsica, in the Taravu Valley, this estate is known for the precision and depth of its wines. Roger Courrèges founded the estate in 1962, before passing it on to his son, Alain, in the 1970s to continue production. Today, the third generation – Gérard and Nathalie –run the estate which covers over 20 hectares.
On the granite soils bathed in sunshine, the property grows native Corsican varieties – Sciaccarellu, Carcaghjolu Neru and Vermentino – with the utmost respect. Viticulture follows organic practices with the estate gaining certification in 2019 and each plot is vinified separately to capture the nuances od each terroir.
In the cellar, vinification involves as little intervention as possible, favouring finesse, balance and natural expression of the grapes. The wines stand out for their elegance and potential to age, incarnating a contemporary vision of fine Corsican wines.
Within the auction, you can find these exceptional lots:
- A case of 174 Granit (red): A magnum of 2022 and 6 bottles of three different vintages (2022, 2021, and 2020)
- A case of 174 Granit (white): A magnum of 2023 (which you won’t find anywhere else as the magnums are reserved for the estate’s personal collection) and 6 bottles of two different vintages (2023, and 2022).
- One Methuselah (6L) of 2022 Quartz
- One Salmanazar (9L) of 2022 red Granit
- A Balthazar (12L) of 2021 red Vaccelli
- One Nebuchadnezzar (15L) of 2022 red Granit
The Arc-en-Ciel association – Creating dreams for unwell children
Gérard Courrèges chose to sell his wines via iDealwine to raise funds for a charity close to his heart: Arc-en-Ciel.
For more than 30 years, the charity Arc-en-Ciel (which means ‘rainbow’ in English) has worked with the powerful belief that a dream can transform the life of a severely ill child. Recognised as a non-profit organisation, the association makes the dreams of children aged between 5 and 16 with rare or serious illnesses (such as cancer or genetic illnesses) come true.
These dreams are not mere interludes in their treatment. They are designed to be genuine sources of joy, courage and escape, allowing the children to see beyond their illness and, for a moment in time, make the often-gruelling medical journey that little bit easier. Meeting an idol, going on a trip, having an extraordinary experience, sharing a priceless moment… each dream is fully funded by the association and undertaken with special attention paid to the child and their family. “A child who has a dream increases the chances of survival by three or four times,” explains Joël Bazzali, the charity’s representative for Provence and Corsica. Arc-en-Ciel also provides invaluable support to parents, offering positive memories and shared moments of happiness that stay with them forever.
By participating in this auction, you are directly contributing to fulfilling dreams, while also discovering or rediscovering the excellence of Domaine Vaccelli wines. To be clear, all of the money raised goes directly to the charity.
