Exploring Burgundy at L’Alliance New York

A thirst for knowledge and enthusiasm for exquisite wine led to a partnership with L’Alliance New York, an institution dedicated to promoting French and francophone culture. Together, we launched a series of tasting masterclasses which focus on the greatest French terroirs.
The first event, in October, was fully booked in only a few hours. Dedicated to Burgundy, it brought together 60 participants who were taken on a journey around the French region by Angélique de Lencquesaing, iDealwine co-founder, and Laurent Delaunay, Maison Edouard Delaunay owner. Over the course of an hour and a half, the wine enthusiasts visited the main appellations and learnt about the unique history of Burgundy. It was an enlightening exploration of the region split into sections with a tasting in between each one. Five wines – from a regional appellation to a grand cru – were enjoyed before the session opened up into broader discussions.

To give the wine lovers an understanding of the richness and variety of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir produced from different Burgundian terroirs, Maison Delaunay chose the following wines for the masterclass:
- Septembre, a 2022 Bourgogne (white)
- 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet Le Village (white)
- Charmont, a 2021 Hautes-Côtes-de-Nuits (red)
- 2022 Nuits-Saint-Georges Le Village (red)
- 2021 Pommard Premier Cru Les Chaponnières(red)
- 2020 Corton Grand Cru (red)
The success of the first event means that everyone is looking forward to the next ones, which will focus on Bordeaux in January, organic and biodynamic wine in April and Sancerre in June. After each masterclass, the participants receive a special offer to order the wines tasted – just another reason not to let these much-anticipated events pass by. The iDealwine team would like to thank Maison Delaunay for their undertaking and L’Alliance New-York for welcoming us and this circle of wine enthusiasts. The ‘L’Art du Vin’ masterclass series promises a wonderful future.
