Top auction picks | Take your cellar from excellent to exceptional

wine auction masseto

At iDealwine, we’re proud to offer wines from extraordinary cellars so that yours can be just as impressive. Some of the gems of this auction include Tuscan Biondi-Santi, the beautiful cuvées of Georges Roumier, Krug’s Clos du Mesnil, Karuizawa whisky, Pierre Overnoy’s vin jaune, and bottles from Châteaux Ausone, Palmer, and Figeac…

Italian treasures: Ciao cantina dei miei sogni!

Some of the finest bottles we have up for auction this time come from the beautiful Italian peninsula, including cuvées from Tuscany, Piedmont, Sicily, Venice, and Abruzzo. From Tuscany, discover the magnificent Brunello di Montalcino DOC Riserva by Biondi-Santi in vintages from 1955 to 1983, as well as the IGT Percarlo from San Giusto in Rentennano. Piedmont’s classic Barolo wine is here represented by domain Falletto – Bruno Giacosa, Giuseppe Mascarello, and Giuseppe Ravinale, an emblematic producer of the appellation. There are also some beautiful Barbaresco cuvées up for auction from domain Roagna, one of the region’s true stars! Venice’s mature Valpolicella is here available in its 1974 and 1959 vintages…bottles you mustn’t miss out on!

Burgundy’s landmark signatures

A cellar is simply not complete without at least one bottle of fine Burgundy. In this auction, the prestigious region is well-represented, for example with the treasures of Georges Roumier: a 1989 Musigny grand cru, a 1999 Chambolle-Musigny premier cru Les Amoureuses, a 2005 Chambolle-Musigny premier cru Les Combottes, and a 2002 Chambolle-Musigny premier cru Les Cras. For the finest of them all, we have Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s La Tâche grand cru in its 1982, 2001, 2003, 2004, and 2014 vintages. The kind of bottle a wine lover dreams of! Otherwise, why not fall for a 2002 Chambertin grand cru from the legendary Armand Rousseau? Or a magnificent 2016 Clos de Vougeot grand cru from Comte Liger-Belair? From Chablis, we have a Chablis grand cru Les Clos from Domaine René et Vincent Dauvissat in their 2008 and 2009 vintages. If the Côte de Beaune takes your fancy, we have several bottles of Volnay premier cru: 2014 by Domaine Comtes Lafon, 2002 by Domaine Clos des Ducs Marquis d’Angerville, and 2010 by Domaine Jacques Prieur. To finish this Burgundy tour on a high, there’s a three-magnum lot of 2015 Mâcon Lugny Les Genievres from the brilliant Louis Latour.

A bubbly selection from Champagne

We couldn’t mention Champagne without talking about two bottles of Krug’s Clos du Mesnil in the 1979 vintage, or indeed the 6-bottle case of Salon’s Cuvée S from 1995 which is also up for auction this time. From Bollinger, we have three magnums of the 1999 R.D. cuvée, as well as a three-bottle lot of 2008 Grande Année champagne. Several Dom Pérignons are also available in their 1978, 1983, and 2002 vintages. Fans of grower champagnes will know that Jacques Selosse is a must-have, here with two lots of the Extra Brut Mareuil sur Ay Sous le Mont cuvée and a two-bottle lot of Extra Brut Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs.

Prestigious spirits

A wonderful way to complete a cellar is with a selection of spirits. This auction includes some illustrious bottles like the 1981 Karuizawa whisky and the A.E.DorAge d’or Réserve Cognac. Other whiskies going under the hammer include the 1990 22YO Single Barrel N°5 Kentucky by Elijah Craig, the 1990 Triple Distillation Limited Edition 21yo Lowlands Rosebank Scotch, and a 2008 18 Year Old 90 Proof Sazerac from Kentucky.

Treasures from other regions

Not wanting to neglect the other regions, we have to point out the two-bottle lot of 1990 vin jaune Arbois Pupillin by Pierre Overnoy, a real gem of the Jura. From Bordeaux, there’s an exceptional 12-bottle lot of Château Ausone’s 1990 premier grand cru classé A. Similarly rare is the 12-bottle lot of Château Figeac’s premier grand cru classé B in its 2015 vintage. Three is the magic number, and we have yet another 12-bottle lots, this time of Château Palmer’s 3ème grand cru classé in its 1986 vintage. The most mature of this auction selection is Portugal Blandy’s Madeira Bual Solera, a wine that was bottled in 1845!
