The most sought-after signatures of Burgundy have come together for this auction: Leroy’s 2009 Richebourg, Bizot’s 2006 Echézeaux, Armand Rousseau’s 2010 Chambertin, Domaine d’Auvenay’s 2013 Chevalier-Montrachet… Of course, there are bottles from more than one region up for auction, too.
Burgundy’s most wanted
You can’t have missed this trend: the wines of Domaine d’Auvenay have been incredibly successful in recent months and are now among the most sought-after names in Burgundy. You will find about 20 lots from Lalou Bize-Leroy’s estate in this auction, fine whites such as the Chevalier-Montrachet and the Bâtard-Montrachet, but also rare reds such as the Bonne-Mares. Let’s stay with the same winemaker: Lalou Bize-Leroy’s eponymous domain, located in the Côtes-de-Nuits, also features with its Richebourg, Clos-de-Vougeot, and Corton cuvées… At Bizot, one of the other most on-trend signatures of the moment (organic and natural, too!) you’ll find gems like the Echézeaux and Vosne-Romanée Vieilles Vignes. From the legendary Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, no Romanée-Conti this time, but a superb Romanée-Saint-Vivant is waiting for bids. Still in the family of Burgundian domains with the best reputation, we have to point out Prieuré-Roch, an estate that has been fascinating wine lovers for the last 2-3 years; the Chambertin Clos de Bèze and Vosne-Romanée Les Clous cuvées feature. Are these icons not enough? How about Domaine Armand Rousseau? Both the Chambertin and Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques await you with open arms.
As you probably also know, Musigny has become the highest-valued appellation in Burgundy thanks to the nectars of Leroy. Several wines from this prestigious appellation are up for auction this time around from Jacques Prieur, Mugnier and even Comte Georges de Vogüé.
Are you a fan of Burgundy but without breaking the bank? Take a look at the lots of Colinot‘s Irancy, the Mâconnais wines of the Héritiers du Comte Lafon or our selection of regional appellation wines.
And from elsewhere
Because there is more to life than just Burgundy, even if the prestigious region takes centre stage in the auction, we also recommend that you have a browse of the rest. From Bordeaux, for example, precious Duclot cases are on offer, especially in mature vintages (1998 and 2000), and there are also several magnums of 2010 Château Mouton Rothschild.
Jura wine lovers, don’t miss the mature Château-Chalon de Perron. In the Languedoc, this auction gives you the chance to taste the mythical wines of the Grange des Pères. The four biggest names in the Loire also feature: natural wines from Les Jardins Esmeraldins and Bernaudeau, alongside the stars that are Clos Rougeard and Dagueneau.
As you can tell, this is an auction that includes the crème de la crème of fine wine. Browse the full selection here and happy bidding!
