A special catalogue from a private seller
This auction includes a collection of 371 bottles from one seller, and you can find these in a dedicated catalogue. This collector began to build up their cellar in the 90s, having inherited a certain amount from his father who passed on his taste for wine. His own part of the collection is constituted from bottles bought from wine merchants and some directly from producers.
Guided by his passion and a particular love for tasting, it has taken around 20 years to accumulate this collection, stored in a Parisian cellar at a constant temperature of 12°C and humidity control. A few of the bottles have been kept in a very fresh and very humid spot, explaining the slight damage on some of the labels…rest assured they have been aged in perfect conditions.
Clearly a fan of the classic regions, most of the bottles put under the hammer by this seller are from Burgundy, the Rhone, and Bordeaux.
You’ll find a nice collection of Hermitages from Jean-Louis Chave, of which the collector is particularly proud, spanning the 1997 to 2013 vintages. The 2000 vintage of this homage cuvée, only produced in exceptional years, is a real jewel in the Hermitage crown. Highly rare, this wine is set to be aged for a very long time.
From Burgundy, if you fancy getting your hands on some truly fine whites, a certain Domaine Coche-Dury is featured in some mature vintages (1992-2002) with Meursaults and Corton-Charlemagne grands crus.
As for Bordeaux, premiers grands crus classes are well represented by Château Haut-Brion, Château Mouton Rothschild and Lafite Rothschild! If you’re looking for something a little less extravagant, we recommend a 1986 or 1990 Sociando Mallet, or perhaps a 1987 Château Montrose!
You’re perhaps wondering what would lead a collector to sell part of their cellar? In this case, it’s simply a question of tastes changing over time. As with many wine enthusiasts, our collector doesn’t drink the same kinds of wine anymore, with preferences evolving as well as the chance for new discoveries. He has now turned more towards natural wines, thus giving you the chance to acquire some superb bottles.
As well as the special catalogue from our private collector, we have fine wines from several regions.
Let’s begin with some bottles that have come directly from Maison Bollinger: the 2002 James Bond 007! Are you thinking it’s still a bit early to be buying champagne? Think again! A wine of this quality can be enjoyed for all kinds of occasions.
You should keep your eye on a couple of prestigious bottles with no reserve price. There’s a 2014 Saumur-Brézé from Clos Rougeard and a bottle of Château Mouton Rothschild in its 2000 vintage (estimated for €1,600).
Since Beaujolais’ latest vintage will be in the spotlight this week, why not take this as an opportunity to revise the region’s wine, beginning with Yvon Métras, a disciple of Marcel Lapierre and a producer of natural gems. The 2018 vintage makes an appearance in the form of two cuvées: Le Printemps and 2ème Mise.
There are plenty of other marvels waiting to be discovered. You’ll find the links to the catalogue below.
