This week’s auction is a veritable symphony to the tune of your desires, with almost 4,000 bottles to explore! There’s Petrus, Jacky Truchot, Bollinger, Clos Naudin, and Rayas, as well as mature Armagnacs, and all in exceptional vintages.
Some of this auction’s biggest stars are from Burgundy. What would you say to a ten-bottle assortment of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti’s 2003 vintage? Numerous lots from the legendary Jacky Truchot are going under the hammer, as well as cuvées by Armand Rousseau. Burgundy is well-known for its rich reds, but it is also home to some of the finest Chardonnay. No domain could be more emblematic in this than Domaine Coche-Dury! These are, of course, some of the world’s brightest stars in fine wine, but our auctions are also a chance to bid on up-and-coming names for more attainable prices. This time, we recommend taking a look at the wines of Nicolas Maillet, Hubert Lamy, Jacqueson, and Geantet-Pansiot.
From Bordeaux, it’s the exceptional 2000 vintage that stands out this time as a real contender for top bids with magnificent cuvées from such prestigious estates as Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild, Margaux, Latour, Haut-Brion, and Cheval Blanc. For many, Petrus is the king of this classic region, and bottles from this fine domain appear in various formats and vintages, including 1983, 1997, 2014, 2015, and 2017. If it’s the especially mature vintages you’re after, you might consider a 1982 Haut-Brion, a 1985 Château d’Yquem, or a 1962 Haut-Marbuzet. In the same category but likely to go for gentler prices are the 1998 La Conseillante, the 1990 Tour Carnet, the 1988 Carbonnieux, and the 1983 Le Crock.
This particular catalogue has a notable selection of fine spirits among its number, particularly in the form of excellent whisky. Scotch, American, Japanese, we’re talking the best of the best. Elijah Craig’s 1990 whisky is a real collection piece. Following on with a real rarity, an almost unfindable bottle of rum distilled in 1996 that is part of Caroni’s “Employees” collection, paying homage to the workers who crafted this legendary spirit. There are also many mature Armagnacs up for auction this time, including a 1986 Folle Blanche Boingneres, a 1985 Louis Dupuy, a 1961 Laubade, a 1981 Château Ravignan, and a Clés des Ducs…the choice may be a tricky one.
Why not finish off your bidding with a bottle of champagne? We have no less than a hundred bottles looking for a home. Among them is a Krug Clos du Mesnil in its 1979 vintage, so if you’ve never had the chance to try bubbles crafted over 40 years ago, you won’t be disappointed. There are also some lots from Maison Bollinger, including the 2002 Brut Vieilles Vignes Françaises and a three-bottle lot of the superb 1985 Grande Année. And from our star performer of 2020, Jacques Selosse, we have a 1990 Brut grand cru Blanc de Blancs.
