Ladies and gentlemen, come with us as we take you on a magical Mediterranean tour of perfect wines for summer sipping.
Our first stop is in Terrasses du Larzac, where the 2015 from Domaine de Montcalmès will pair perfectly with your summer suppers. You’ll also have the chance to taste the legendary whites from La Grange des Pères in the 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2016 vintages. World-renowned and hard to find, they will charm you with their aromas of white flowers and citrus fruits as well as their harmony. We’re also welcoming a newcomer, L’Ermitage du Pic Saint Loup, one of the stars of the appellation. The Sainte Agnès cuvée is lauded for its frankness, freshness and fine tannins.
Heading further south, to Provence, where a few surprises await you. Château de Bellet lies on the hills surrounding Nice and is known for its Baron G, a blend of Folle Noire and Grenache, as well as its beautiful climate that combines a sea breeze with the nearby mountain wind. Château de Roquefort is also worth a stop, with the Côtes de Provence Les Mûres 2015, a wine brimming with notes of red and black fruits, a firm favourite of ours.
A short boat ride takes us to Corsica, where Comte Abbatucci cultivates 18 different varieties on 20 hectares in the Taravo valley. Freshness, elegance and finesse are the watchwords here; Le Diplomate d’Empire 2015 and Le Monte Bianco 2014 stood out for us. To the north, domain Yves Leccia E. Croce – his 2018 Patrimonio – is a must-try.
Our tour of the Mediterranean doesn’t stop with France. Rather, let’s move on to Spain, and try the fabulous 2010 and 2012 Riojas from Benjamin Romeo. The former opens with time, with notes of blackberry, cherry and oaky notes appearing, whereas the 2012 is characterised by its floral profile.
In Italy, it would be a crime not to mention the iconic Sassicaia 2011 from Tenuta San Guido. This world-renowned Italian wine will win you over with its perfect balance between power and finesse, its length on the palate and its elegant tannins.
As our Mediterranean excursion comes to a close, we have one final destination: Greece. Get to know this country’s wines such as the Naoussa Terre et Ciel from Domaine Thymiopoulos. This mineral and fruity wine is lifted by a pleasant acidity; it is the ideal accompaniment for barbecue grilled lamb.
That’s our iDeal tour of the Mediterranean over, why not let your taste buds travel with our selection of Mediterranean gems for summer sipping? As a bonus, when you buy six bottles, you’ll get a free map of Corsica’s vineyards 😊
