This auction is a bit of a special one, since as well as the general catalogue there is a selection of wines from a private seller, straight from their own exceptional collection. And this isn’t the first time we’ve come across this enthusiast, since they sold some of their precious bottles with is in January of this year, making for some very happy customers! This auction will close on the 14th and 15th October.
The special collection catalogue
This wine-loving Swiss seller is putting over 600 of their tempting bottles under the hammer on iDealwine this month. “This is a great passion of mine!” they told us over the phone. Though there’s no need to convince the Logistics team of this, as they are delicately unpacking the palette that has just arrived at our warehouse. With gems from all of France’s finest regions, non-French treasures, legendary vintage years, and wine growers not yet discovered by the wider public, this selection clearly comes from a cellar put together with utmost care. Some of our top picks would be: the 2005 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint Jacques from Denis Mortet, the 2007 Saumur-Champigny Le Bourg from Clos Rougeard, and a 1996 magnum of the Cristal cuvée from Louis Roederer. And the cream of the crop in this selection has to be the magnificent 1969 Musigny from Leroy!
Our seller also has a penchant for Swiss wines, especially as the Valais region is an understated goldmine! The Rhône runs through the landscape here, a place where the wines are of amazing quality, even comparable at times to those produced in France’s Rhône valley. They have varietals in common, with a shared growing of Syrah, Roussanne, and Marsanne vines. “I really recommend wine enthusiasts to try something from this part of the world, especially as I’ve included some mature vintages in my selection that are ready to be enjoyed!” Domaine Simon Maye also produces wine from varietals native to the region such as the Cornalin grape.
Whether they’re from Burgundy, Bordeaux, or the Rhône Valley, these crimson and garnet-red bottles are always myriad in our sales at iDealwine. Do we have an unfair bias? Perhaps that won’t matter when you see the quality of what’s on offer! This time we have some excellent cuvées in large formats, including magnums of the 2009 Echézeaux grand cru from Domaine Bizot, the 2000 Romanée grand cru from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, and the 1948 Château Palmer. A Salmanazar of 2002 Château Le Puy is also bound to be delightful for you and your guests! In a more classic volume, how about a 1990 cuvée from Château Cheval Blanc? And from Guigal we have the famous trio of La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque in their 2005 vintage.
Let’s head to Italy with some bottles from Piedmont that will make your mouth water. We have the Sperss Barolo from Angelo Gaja in several lots, a wine infused with aromas of rose, peony, and black fruit produced by one of the biggest names in Italian viticulture. From Tuscany the Manetti family presents the Le Pergole Torte cuvée in its 2013 and 2014 vintages. And from the other side of the world, there are two bottles of the 2004 Grange Bin 95 cuvée from Australia’s Penfolds domain. From the US, there is a three-bottle lot of 1995 Gravelly Meadow out of Diamond Creek in the Napa Valley.
