2020 brings with it a new decade and the 20th year of iDealwine’s activity. A perfect introduction to the year, this focus on our mature bottles allows us to share our favourites from the last twenty years. There’s no doubt you’ll give in to temptation…
Let’s not forget that iDealwine is by far the best place to discover mature wines, and this has been the case for 20 years now. Even la Revue du Vin de France agrees, naming us ‘Best site for mature vintages’ last November. But we’ll let you judge for yourselves.
Bordeaux, its grands crus classés, its majestic Châteaux as well as its fine and complex cellaring wines continue to fascinate us. Browse the region’s most beautiful appellations in search of the memorable 2000 vintage. You will find, for example, those of Saint-Emilion’s grand cru classé Château Angélus, Château d’Yquem’s Sauternes, Château Latour from Pauillac and Château Giscours from Margaux.
Over the course of the past twenty years, Burgundy and its climats have known moments of glory thanks to the relentless work of M. de Villaine, owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Classed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, these last ones really deserve your attention. (Re)discover the work of great domains like that of Bruno Clair (1999 Vosne-Romanée Les Champs Perdrix), Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier (2006 Bonnes-Mares), Coche-Dury (2002 Auxey-Duresses) and Armand Rousseau (2007 Chambertin Clos de Bèzes).
Since it’s the ideal season for savouring the power and depth of the Rhône’s fine wines, and since the wines at the heart of this sale are already revealing their potential, you should look closely at the selection we’ve put together. The northern part of the region is represented by Georges Vernay’s Condrieu (2010 Terrasses de l’Empire), Thierry Allemand’s Cornas (2004 Reynard), Yves Gangloff’s Côte-Rôtie (2010 La Barbarine) or the Hermitages from the Guigal family estate (2006 Ex Voto). Further south, we’re dreaming of the finesse of Usseglio’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape (2009 Réserve des 2 Frères), the intensity of Château de Saint Cosme’s Gigondas (2007 Le Claux) and the mystery surrounding the 2010 Vacqueyras from Château des Tours, a gem that is coveted by fans of Emmanuel Reynaud’s unique and extremely fine style.
Often, there are many of you who appreciate the freshness and tension of northern wines. You’re bound to find what you’re looking for from the Loire valley which over the last ten years has seen the emergence of new talents like the Taille aux Loups domain (Montlouis Triple Zéro), the natural domain Bellevue (Billes de Quartz Brut Nature) and the biodynamic Thierry Germain from Domaine des Roches Neuves.
On our part, we’ve fallen for some bottles of Champagne to celebrate our twentieth year. We’ve already got our eye on Agrapart’s 2009 extra-brut Blanc de Blancs, the exceptional 2006 vintage from our historic partner, Drappier and the 2008 Winston Churchill cuvée by Pol Roger. And what would you recommend to us?
And of course, twenty years has been plenty of time for iDealwine to see an increase in enthusiasts for wines from abroad. We can fulfil their wishes here with the historic 2004 Vin de Constance from Klein Constantia, our favourite German Riesling the 2009 Wehlener Sonnenuhr Auslese from Joh Jos Prum, the Riojas cuvées from Bodega Contador’s talented Benjamin Romeo, Giuseppe Quintarelli’s 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella, and Taylor’s 2009 vintage port.
As always, the choice is vast, and the names cited are only a glimmer of what’s on offer. We encourage you to take a look at all the mature vintages for sale on iDealwine to find exactly what you want. Happy purchasing!
