Let’s head south to the sunny valleys of Languedoc and Roussillon! These two vineyards are now among the most dynamic in France and often offer excellent price-pleasure ratios. If you have emptied your cellar at the end of last year, this is probably the right time to restock and look into this selection!
Whenever we prepare a sale dedicated to the wines of Languedoc Roussillon, the team gets particularly excited. The reason? iDealwine does not only features one of the largest selections online – but also shares a myriad of great discoveries at reasonable prices. Ideal, isn’t it? Especially after the excesses of the end of the year. Of course, you can keep squeezing your bank account by rushing on the stars in this sale, like Grange des Pères, a true icon of the region, Clos des Cistes and Syrah Léone, the top cuvées from Peyre-Rose in ready-to-drink vintages (2002, 2003, 2004 …).
Conversely, for those who like to take the time to age their wine, the Mas Daumas Gassac 2016 is a very good choice, especially since it is a great vintage. Lovers of large formats will be delighted to discover the many magnums offered in this sale: Montcalmès, Christophe Peyrus (Pic Saint-Loup), le domaine des Aurelles, Alain Chabanon’s L’Esprit de Font Caude or the Elise and Pradel cuvées from the Domaine de la Terrasse d’Elise, one of our favourites. We recommend cuvée Lou Maset from Domaine d’Aupilhac for fruity and light wine lovers.
Here are a few other favourites: La Traversée from Gavin Crisfield, a dense, fresh wine that is both powerful and elegant. In the Minervois, do not miss Jean-Baptiste Senate, the star of the appellation. Finally, if you are looking for nice and affordable wines under €10, go on Antonyme from Canet-Valette, a bomb of gluttony. And if the iDealwine team has not already bought everything when you finish this article, crack for the cuvée XB from Terrasse d’Elise!
White wine lovers should cuvée Aurel from the eponymous domaine – a stunning wine, great in red too, Oro from Peyre-Rose and Mas Daumas Gassac blanc.
If you get lost in the various appellations of Languedoc, do not hesitate to read our Languedoc wine guide. It must be said that iDealwine has clearly become the specialist of these old wines with a rare price-quality ratio.
In Roussillon too, we have gathered a few stars, like the cuvée La Petite Siberie of Clos des Fées, or the white Coume Gineste and La Muntada of Gauby, but also the most confidential cuvées from Olivier Pithon for example. But this selection is also an opportunity to stock up on great wines under €20. Check the cuvée Sans Plus Attendre, from domaine Modat, De Battre Mon Coeur s’Est Arrété or Les Sorcières from Clos des Fées. Three perfectly inescapable wines.
As often, we feature a fantastic selection of fortified wines on vintages dating back to 1874.
