With around 150 vintages, this sale concentrating on the southern end of the Rhône valley provides an overview of the very best of appellations such as Châteauneuf du Pape, Cairanne, Gigondas and Vacqueyras etc. This is an iDealwine 100% best pick selection, totally committed to offering you the most reasonable prices possible.
Sun-packed fruit, fabulous terroirs and prices which are still affordable: what more could you ask for? We’ve selected 150 vintages which, to put it simply, absolutely deserve their place in your cellar.
The catalogue includes a brilliant selection from Châteauneuf du Pape, starting off with the most famous one: Château Rayas, but there is also the extremely prestigious Hommage à Jacques Perrin from Château de Beaucastel, and Clos des Papes – a must-have for those who love Châteauneuf wines, crowned « best wine in the world » by Wine Spectator for its 2005 vintage -, Le Vieux Donjon, la Vieille Julienne, Les Cailloux Cuvée du Centenaire, Marcoux, La Janasse, Pierre Usseglio, Saint-Préfert, Vieux Télégraphe and Pierre André – for fans of Châteauneuf wines with great finesse -. This selection has been put together by an iDealwine team which absolutely adores the wines from this area. With the idea being to sell these wines at prices which are still reasonable because this is still possible in Châteauneuf. This means you can purchase really fine wines from this appellation at prices starting from only €24. It won’t have escaped your attention that most of these estates use organic or biodynamic methods of production, which you have to admit only adds to their attraction
In the north of the valley, in the Côtes du Vivarais region, we have various vintages for you from Domaine Gallety, which, dare we say, are among the top representatives of this appellation.
If the range of wines produced under the ‘Côtes-du-Rhône’ label is both vast and of uneven quality, there is no denying that this is a region with a wealth of rare gems which offer fantastic value for money as long as you take the time to research them. And we can assure that in our team here we take such research extremely seriously! We have to say that there are several estates which are really worth you trying: let’s start by mentioning Château des Tours, for those who haven’t yet heard of this estate it belongs to the great winemaker Emmanuel Reynaud (Château Rayas), which means you can start to get an idea of this legendary producer’s talent at prices well below those you’d pay for a Châteauneuf … Marcel Richaud is another great name, for AOC Côtes du Rhône as well as for Côtes du Rhône Villages Cairanne (which since its 2015 vintage is now completely AOC), a winemaker whose talent is universally acclaimed by wine enthusiasts. Oratoire Saint-Martin is another estate which we can highly recommend, in particular for its unusually elegant Cairannes. And finally, a few of the great names also produce inexpensive Côtes du Rhônes such as Beaucastel – and its famous Coudoulet, a huge favourite with iDealwine -, Charvin and La Janasse.
In the Vaucluse, we would recommend you try Domaine des Tours (which once again belongs to Emmanuel Reynaud), which you’ll only manage to get if you’re very quick off the mark because usually it sells out within a few minutes. In AOC Gigondas, known for its reasonable prices, Château Saint-Cosme and Domaine La Bouïssière are a safe bet, as is La Soumade in Rasteau, and La Monardière in Vacqueyras, which has become part of the network of producers with whom we work directly. In AOC Beaumes-de-Venise, Domaine de La Ferme Saint Martin also merits your utmost attention. We’ve already mentioned the name of this small, organic estate, which keeps a low profile but which offers incredible value for money with wines of great finesse.
Lastly, if you want a Vin de France, you have here Pierre André’s Clin d’Oeil, a wine which promises the very best for all those who know the level of quality of the Châteauneufs from Domaine Pierre André….
