An exceptional selection of top Bordeaux wines, as well as delicious every day bottles, at all price points. Remember, Bordeaux also means pleasure!
It was Stéphane Derenoncourt, leading Bordeaux oenologist, who said, « Bordeaux is undoubtedly the region in the world that offers the best value for money, with the opportunity today to buy fine wine for €10 (£7.3). But to see that the effect of fashion discount these wines, greatly saddens me.” It is true that the excessive media coverage of some top wines masks this reality, but our extensive Bordeaux selection will make you happy without breaking the bank.
Here are some highlights to guide you through the selection:
Wines of great terroir, with little media coverage
Those who have travelled along the backroads of Castillon-la-Bataille or Fronsadais already know – these are beautiful landscapes with amazing terroirs. And this is great news, since the sale includes wines from some of these areas!
In Côtes du Castillon, there is the unrivalled Clos Puy-Arnaud (at least according to iDealwine), one of the few biodynamic producers in Bordeaux. The wines have been consistently improving for a good 10 years and possess a certain softness and pleasant tannin structure that reminds of Burgundy. A delicious, immediately enjoyable wine…
In Fronsac, Château de Carles and its flagship Haut-Carles, which is regularly praised by critics, breaks down the theoretical barriers of appellations. Haut-Carles, which ages remarkably well, has no need to feel inferior to its many prestigious neighbours!
In Haut-Médoc, Château Belle-Vue also offers very reasonably priced wines. These are produced with specific attention to the vineyard and cellar, worthy of top Bordeaux. A great producer that we have always appreciated at iDealwine and experience shows that these wines can age beautifully.
Over in neighbouring Médoc, Tour Haut-Caussan is a great example of a wine under €15 (around £11) that can be enjoyed after four or five years, while it will improve even further for another 10 or more years.
The new 2012’s
Just released and now available on iDealwine! Two years ago we selected several wines that particularly impressed us during the 2012 En Primeur tastings. You will find, for example, the following châteaux: Haut-Brion (very elegant), Pontet-Canet (exceptionally delicate fruit), Haut-Bailly (finesse and depth), Rauzan-Ségla, Sociando-Mallet, Grand Corbin-Despagne and many more.
This is the intermediate category for Bordeaux, one that offers great wines at affordable prices. From Sauternes we recommend Château Nairac and Raymond Lafon. In red, you will find several vintages of Sociando-Mallet, Siran and Giscours in Margaux; Malartic-Lagravière in Pessac; Grand Corbin-Despagne in Saint-Emilion; and Bourgneuf in Pomerol.
The great names
Even if they don’t form the core of this sale, we cannot offer a Bordeaux Fixed-Price Sale – which doesn’t happen often – without featuring some of the top fine wines, such as Châteaux Mouton Rothschild, Lafite Rothschild, Pape-Clément, Angélus, Montrose, Léoville Las Cases and, finally, Yquem and Climens in Sauternes.
A particularly large and diverse selection for all Bordeaux lovers.
