To start the celebrations, let champagne flow!
Excellent festive beverage, Champagne is obviously the ideal start to your celebration meals. In that respect, iDealwine offers an incomparable choice! From the most renowned brands to the lesser winemakers, from brut to semi-dry and from the most delicate to the most powerful, there is champagne for every taste! The nicely balanced Ultradition Laherte Frères, the vinous Brut Nature Drappier, the complex and fresh Royal Réserve Philipponat, the rich and powerful Brut Réserve Suenen, the ample Les Murgiers Francis Boulard, or even the pinot meunier Origin’elle Bedel. The most renowned names are also amongst the selection: Bollinger, Roederer, Deutz, Pol Roger, Taittinger, Ayala, Jacquesson. Discover niche champagnes like De Sousa, Egly-Ouriet, Larmandier-Bernier, Agrapart, Olivier Horiot, Marguet, Chartogne-Taillet.
Pair your character dishes with great Bordeaux or Rhône wines
Of course, the classic foie gras will pair perfectly with a Sauternes. Why not try an Yquem this year? If not, we highly recommend Château de Fargues, Guiraud, Climens, Rieussec and Suduiraut, that are blue chip for us. Be careful, this sale has an exceptional lot: a magnum of Château La Tour Blanche 1966.
If this year, Christmas won’t rime with turkey for you but game or pigeon, we have got great mature Bordeaux wines for you. Large formats for large families (jeroboam of Lafite 1964, imperial of Haut-Brion 1978), classified growths (Pichon Longueville Baron 2009, Figeac 2006), reasonably-priced blue chip wines like Phélan Ségur 2006 at only €35! We are also happy to disclose the first bottles of our En Primeur 2015 selection (Haut-Bergey, Franc Les Cerisiers, Pressac, Marojalia and Siran), although not quite ready to drink now, they will be perfect gifts!
You can also choose Rhône wines to pair with your read meat dishes, with several jeroboams and imperials from Chapoutier (Hermitage La Chapelle, Chante Alouette and Ermite, Côte-Rôtie Les Bécasses and Crozes-Hermitage Les Varonniers). It is the moment to go for a bottle of one of the best winemakers of the region, Emmanuel Reynaud, with his Château Fonsalette 2006, but also Château and Domaine des Tours for ready-to-drink vintages. Unless you prefer the Centenaire cuvée 2006 from André Brunel Châteauneuf from vines planted in 1889.
Fine Burgundy wines with poultry
Capon, turkey, goose, fatted chicken, duck pair perfectly with Burgundy! What’s best to make your Christmas meal unforgettable than Bonnes-Mares 2009 from Auvernay, or Clos Vougeot 2009 from Méo-Camuzet? The selection offers premiers and grands crus, but also lovely wines at reasonable prices like Monthélie from Sylvie Boyer at only €15!
Rosé Champagne or slightly acidulous sweet wine for desserts
Dessert is always an important moment at Christmas with different options of wine pairings. If you go for an acidulated pudding (citrus, red fruits, passion fruits), you can pair it with a sweet wine, where the high acidity of the dessert will balance perfectly the sweetness of the wine. Great Sauternes wines, even Vouvray, like Domaine Huet, or Alsatian SGN (selection of noble grapes) or VT (late harvests), like Quintescence de Grains Nobles Cuvée d’Or 2006 from Weinbach, great Jurançon like Jardins de Babylone. Rosé Champagnes will pair nicely with red fruit desserts, like the Brut from Egly-Ouriet, the bled rosé Sève en Barmont 2010 from Olivier Horiot or even Belle Epoque rosé from Perrier Jouët.
If you are more a chocolate person, we really recommend mature Rivesaltes: the pairing is absolutely magical. And iDealwine is probably the best place for mature fortified wine: we have a range from 1930 to 1988 from €35. Don’t forget that a Rivesaltes nearly a century old is also a great Christmas present.
End the meal with fortified wine or spirit
Concerning spirits, iDealwine offers for the first time cognacs, whiskys, armagnacs and rhums, thanks to new partnerships we have made with different houses: Darroze for armagnacs, Delamain for cognacs, Nikka and Dalmore for whiskys.
But also the best wines from each region because happiness is in diversity
White Burgundies like Meursault Les Narvaux from Auvernay or Bâtard-Montrachet from Ramonet, will pair very nicely with your poultry dishes and scallop starters. The white wines from the Rhône are also a good option for your poultry dishes in sauce, especially white Hermitage from Guigal or Château Grillet.
Take a look at our selection from the Loire, Languedoc, Roussillon and even non-French wines too.
Wishing you a pleasant Christmas shopping and happy festive moments!
