Auctions | 4,000 lots, exceptional vintages…

VE 19022019

Let’s start with Bordeaux and its profusion of Crus Classés available in exceptional vintages. The reputation of the 1982 vintage precedes itself; in this sale, no fewer than 30 vintages are available in this auction. Who will be the one to win a Mouton Routhschild 1982? Or a Gruaud Larose from the same year? Equally delicious and more recent vintages also feature in these mid-February auctions with, for instance, Haut Brion and Château Angélus in the 1989 vintage. You will also find many large format bottles such as a lot of eight magnums with two Petrus 2000, two Château Latour 2000, two Haut Brion 2000 and two Château Margaux 2000.

The finest Burgundian vintages also proliferate in these auctions. 1990 combined quality and quantity in many regions, especially Burgundy. It is known for its stunning concentration, particularly true for the Gevrey Chambertin Clos Saint Jacques from Armand Rousseau. 2010 was an excellent year not only in Bordeaux but also Burgundy, with ripe, concentrated wines of excellent balance – both red and white. If you’re looking for white, try a Puligny-Montrachet or Meursault from Domain Coche Dury, or to cite just a few reds, Dugat-Py, Méo-Camuzet or Domain Arnoux-Lachaux.

In the Northern and Southern Rhone alike, 1998 and 1999 were some of the best years for the region, giving concentrated wines capable of aging with remarkable ease. Among the wines up for auction, Jamet’s Côte-Rôties and a Rayas 1998 stand out for us.

To top it off, if we had to choose one vintage for champagne, it would have to be 2002: although it had begun with a disastrous summer, it redeemed itself with a month of beautiful weather in September, resulting in ideal alcohol levels and concentration. At iDealwine, we are more than a little enthused about these wonderful vintage champagnes, for instance the Mathusalem of Cristal from Louis Roederer or Dom Perignon’s gems.

Happy bidding to one and all!
