Have you ever had the chance to uncork a Madeira from 1808? How about an 1815 Novidade Frasqueira port? Alongside a vertical of Montrachet from Comtes Lafon covering the 1999 to 2005 vintages, this is a truly splendid selection.
Some of the bottles in this auction have 200 years separating them. It’s remarkable that this magnificent 1808 Madeira by JS Terrantez came into the world two centuries before the beautiful 2008 Collection Duclot case. A multi-generational gap, then, between a colossally aged, fortified wine and the Holy Grail of Bordeaux grands crus. Bottles of Madeira are also available here from 1810 and 1812…enough for several very special tasting sessions.
Could you discern the differences between vintages of the same property? From some of the prestigious domains you’ll find in this auction, there are bottles available in exciting verticals, meaning that the same cuvée is available in several vintages. Comtes Lafon’s Montrachet is featured, for example, in vintages between 1999 and 2005, a rich, complex, and concentrated wine that stands out for its immense ageing potential. From Bordeaux, it’s the classic Château Haut Brion that invites us to taste a vertical of its finest produce, covering the years 1987 to 2011. The same goes for Château d’Armailhac between 1973 and 2009, and Château Carbonnieux from 1976 to 2008. From the Rhône, you’ll find Jamet’s Côte-Rôtie in vintages ranging from 1991 to 2017…And these are just a few examples!
Fortified wines for collectors
Aside from the icons we’ve already mentioned, there are other Port and Madeira cuvées that represent the pride of their respective countries. We recommend this 1985 Burmester Vintage port, the fruit of traditional vinification methods and extensive aging. This wine is mature in character with aromatics marked by cacao and coffee. We’d also like to draw your attention to this 1845 Centenary Solera Bual, as well as an 1860 Joao Romao Teixeira Terrantez Campanario.
