Our first auction of the year is filled with veritable treasures for you to start off 2021 on the best foot. Whether you covet classic cuvées or are seeking something a bit different, take a dive into this promising selection.
Beginning with Burgundy, we have a wine that is undoubtedly one of the world’s most legendary…a 2009 Romanée-Conti (also available in 2007), from the eponymous domain. The star of this sale hasn’t arrived alone, though, as we also find in the catalogue its little sister La Tâche, another grand cru that you can acquire in vintages ranging from 1991 to 2016.
Having started on such a high note, let’s continue on our path of luxury to another estate of renown: Leroy, in Auxey-Duresses. There are two icons awaiting from here: the Musigny grand cru and the Bonnes-Mares grand cru, both in their exceptional 1969 vintage. This family name can be found in traces across the wine world, and another highly-reputed domain represented here is Prieuré-Roch, formerly managed by Henry Leroy. The wines from this estate deserve your attention, possessing remarkable finesse.
If you’re feeling more drawn to a fine white, nothing could be more fitting than Domaine Coche-Dury’s Meursault-Genevrières premier cru. These are available in the recent vintages of 2017 and 2018, perfect to purchase with the view of long cellaring.
Bordeaux also has some gems to offer in this auction. What would you say to a 12-bottle lot of 1961 Château Clément, for example? Otherwise, offer yourself the luxury of a wooden case containing 12 bottles of Passion Haut-Brion in its excellent 2009 and 2010 vintages. This domain, whose 1.5 hectares of vines are found among the Château Haut-Brion vineyard, is an absolute rarity since it ceased production in 2012.
Some of the most appealing bottles without a reserve price include a classic 2000 Mouton-Rothschild, a 1979 Cristal from Louis Roederer, and a 2003 Arbois-Pupillin ouillé from the wonderful Domaine Overnoy-Houillon.
Next up is the Rhône Valley, where we have a 1991 Côte-Rôtie from Domaine Jamet. This domain is one of the Côte-Rôtie appellation’s classics, and it has seen a renewal since the 70s. If you prefer the southern Rhône, we have a beautiful collection of 12 bottles of 2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape from Domaine Clos des Papes.
From the Loire, have you heard of Stéphane Bernaudeau? These bottles are rare and magnificent expressions of Chenin blanc, such as the ‘Les Nourrissons vignes centenaires’ cuvée here available in several vintages between 2009 and 2018; a lovely way to start the year!
As for non-French wines, there are some big names we love to hear about…California’s Napa Valley is home to the Screaming Eagle, a wine given a perfect 100/100 score by Robert Parker, here available in its 2007 vintage. We also have one of the finest Riesling’s in the world: a 2005 G-Max from domain Keller.
To round off with a wonderful collection, we have a lot that most whisky lovers could only dream of: a Kentucky Buffalo, a 17-Year-Old Eagle Rare, an 18-Year-Old Sazerac, a 17-Year-Old Thomas H Handy Sazerac, and a 2014 George Stagg William Larue Weller. The opportunities to savour something special are myriad…
