Auction | The return of must-try domains

This year, our auctions are a place to find rarer and rarer gems. We could write reams about each bottle, but alas, we can only choose a few: so here is a selection which we hope will inspire you to wander further into this sublime sale.

Fine wine from Bordeaux in the spotlight

There’s no need to spell them all out, all the 1855 premier grands crus classés are here, with a special mention for Château Lafite Rothschild. There are no less than 64 bottles in exceptional vintages such as 1986, 2000 and 2005 on offer: seasoned collectors will be sure to find just what they want. There are even some lots made up of 12 bottles; perfect for building up your cellar.

You might also want to bid for two bottles of 1998 Petrus, a fine year for Bordeaux’s rive droite. And there is another great Pomerol up for grabs. If it doesn’t attract as much attention as its neighbour, it is nonetheless highly coveted due to its low production levels and its unquestionable excellence. We’re of course talking about Château Trotanoy! Two lots of twelve bottles in the 1971 and 1975 vintages will be looking for a home in this sale.

Looking for a big bottle for a special occasion? This might be the one for you: we have a Jeroboam of 1994 Mouton Rothschild waiting to be opened in celebration!

Burgundy in all its diversity

Is your cellar already bursting with the biggest names from Bordeaux? Or maybe you’re looking for something a bit different? We have the answer, since over a third of the wines in this auction are from Burgundy. And it wouldn’t be a Burgundy auction without the esteemed presence of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, with among others a magnificent 2002 Montrachet as well as a 2016 La-Tâche. There is also a lovely selection from Coche-Dury, with Corton-Charlemagne cuvées available in several vintages (1995, 2000, 2011, 2013, 2014).

And for something a bit more mature, there are two Musigny grands crus from Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé: a legendary 1961 as well as a 1966.

A snapshot of other regions

For those of you who are particular fans of Syrah, we’ve got the perfect bottles to quench your thirst. Starting with the winning trio from Domaine Guigal: La Mouline, La Landonne and La Turque, available mainly in lots of 3 from some beautiful vintage years (2003, 2005, 2009, 2010). There will also be a mature bottle of 1976 La Mouline!

If you’d like to get a feel for the pinnacle of Emmanuel Reynaud’s wines, we suggest a Château Rayas in its 1989 vintage – why not start with the best?

And that’s not all, since a rosé bottle of Dom Pérignon 1959 has made it onto the list. Last year it took the auctions by a storm, so we imagine it won’t pass unnoticed this time, either.

Let’s take a final little detour via the Jura, where two bottles of 2000 vin jaune by the rare Pierre Overnoy domain will be seeking a buyer.

As for whisky, don’t miss out on a sumptuous 30-year-old Hibiki Suntory as well as a 25-year-old Scottish single malt from the Macallen distillery.

But, of course, you can make up your own mind among the 9000 lots up for sale. Happy bidding!
