Auction: A Dazzling End to the Year

les nourissons bernaudeau

Rarely have auctions had so many rare bottles! End the year in style by bidding on these beauties… A 2019 jeroboam of Les Nourissons by Stéphane Bernaudeau is up for auction on iDealwine, as well as a vertical of La Grange des Pères (1992-2015), bottles from Leroy, Auvenay, Armand Rousseau, a 2000 Carré d’As case (Petrus, Château Latour, Château Margaux, Château Haut-Brion), 2000 Mouton-Rothschild, 2000 Lafite, 1990 Rayas, 1996 Dom Pérignon Oenothèque…. The end of the year could shape up quite nicely after all!

A very rare jeroboam of Bernaudeau’s 2019 Les Nourrissons, sourced directly from the domain.

Among the incredible wines up for auction is a jeroboam of Les Nourissons in the 2019 vintage, produced by Domaine Bernaudeau and brought to auction by winemaker Stéphane Bernaudeau himself. The bottle is signed and one of only seven of this cuvée, his finest, were produced in this large format in this vintage. Four of them will be auctioned on iDealwine and, this being the first, and the remaining four will go under the hammer in early 2022. Estimated at €1,000, bidding will begin at just €1 and is likely to generate fierce bidding battles. The winemaker has described it as follows: “It comes from old Chenin vines planted on schist in 1910 (it’s the oldest parcel on the estate) and the wine is vinified and aged in vats – only vats – with very little intervention in the cellar as everything is done in the vineyard. There is very little added sulphur and the wine is aged for one year.” These bottles have not moved from the estate’s cellar until they were put up for auction today. A tasting tip to remember? Be patient! “It may depend on your taste but, for me, this wine that should age at least 3-4 more years before serving. This is especially true considering the size of the bottle, the large format is ideal for ageing. I recommend you cellar it and forget about it for a while“.

A Complete Vertical of La Grange des Pères (1992-2015)

Another rare lot, exceptional in its completeness: a vertical of red Les Grange des Pères, from the first vintage produced, 1992, to 2015. These bottles are offered in individual lots, which can allow wine lovers to complete their own collection, with, in particular, the rare remaining examples of the first vintages, which are priced at several thousand euros (currently €2,763, but some bottles have already sold for over €5,000 on iDealwine). Unfortunately for fans of this estate, the untimely death of winemaker, Laurent Vaillé, this year, has naturally increases the rarity of his wines.
