Auction closed 30th March: 3,000 fine wines & a great collection of 2005 Bordeaux

online-30-mars-1024x267The auction opened until Wednesday 30th March features a large diversity of fine wines and a particularly interesting collection of Bordeaux grands crus including many original wooden cases and a great series of the 2005 vintage. With more than 3,000 lots, you’ll find the best domaines and producers. Here is a snapshot per region:

Bordeaux: Starting to open but still with a very long ageing potential, the acclaimed 2005 vintage in Bordeaux is heavily represented in this sale: Lafite-Rothschild, Petrus, Valandraud, Figeac… they come from the cellar of a wine collector who is a total Bordeaux fan and are kept in great conditions. If you want to be more reasonable, opt for example for a La Tour de By 1989 (average price €15), a Picque Caillou 2005 (€16), or Le Cloître de Prieuré Lichine 2005 (€20, the second wine of the eponymous grand cru), a Haut-Bailly 1989 (€50), a Fieuzal 2005 (€70) or a Calon-Ségur 1990 (€80). Whatever your taste profile, a mature Bordeaux is always a great pleasure to open, especially with such prices.

Burgundy: Many affordable Burgundies are featured in this catalogue such as this Pouilly-Fuissé 2002 from Jean-Paul Paquet (Domaine Les Vieux Murs) selling around €15, this Bourgogne 2010 from Dugat-Py (€20) and for the same price, this Chorey-lès-Beaune « Pièce du Chapitre» 2005 from Domaine Tollot-Beaut. If you want to step up, you can maybe bid on a bottle of Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru Vieilles Vignes «Les Corvées Pagets» 2002 from Dominique Laurent (€45), a Pommard 1er Cru «Les Grands Epenots» 2009 from Louis Jadot (€60) or a Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru Clavoillons 2010 from Domaine Leflaive (€90), a prestigious producer and the ultimate reference in biodynamic winemaking. For iconic wine lovers, check this lot of 3 bottles of Meursault «Clos de la Barre» 2002 from Domaine des Comtes Lafon (€330) or the 6 bottles of Vosne-Romanée Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg 2005 (€480). Last but not least, you can also find in this sale the finest and rarest bottles of Burgundy: Gaudichots 1926 (the ancestor of La Tâche) from domaine de la Romanée Conti, in the same vintage, a Vosne-Romanée 1er cru Les Brulées 1926 from Henri Jayer.

Rhône: Around €20, you’ll be abble to purchase a Saint-Joseph 2005 from Guigal or in the same appelation and vintage, the cuvée «Mairlant» from François Villard or a Cairanne 2001 from l’Oratoire Saint-Martin. For a slightly higher price point, opt for a Côte-Rôtie 2007 from Domaine Georges Vernay (€45), a Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2000 from Château de Beaucastel (€60) and a Côte-Rôtie 2006 from Domaine Jamet (€100). In bonus, two emblematic wines: an Hermitage 2010 from Jean-Louis Chave (€400) or a case of 6 Côte-Rôtie La Landonne 1988 from Maison Guigal…

Champagne: Prestige cuvées and vintage Champagne have been very successful in previous auctions. Note this 1996 Roederer (€70), La Grande Dame 1989 from Veuve Clicquot (€95), or this Brut Impérial 1952 from Moët-Chandon (€120) and of course these 3 bottles of mythical Selosse…
